Science is looking up

Confirmed sighting here with binoculars. Right over the hills of Fugawe. Will probably be able to see without once it gets darker.

Still haven't seen neowise yet. Tried a few nights ago and even with binos, too much light pollution to the west from 202/Flemington. Will have to drive west of 202 and try again.

Sort of related, or could say "science is looking down". Finally replaced the wedding band I lost in the Venice surf with a new ring - 9 planets ring made by a guy in CA. The planets are in a ring of meteorite which rotates around the gold band. This is the "small/thinner" version, the wide one would have been ridiculous. Earth (light blue), Mars, Venus and Jupiter visible in this pic:

Launch out of Wallops tonight.

This is visible from my front porch - anyone with a good view to the south should be able to see it.

Launch is tonight at 9:16 - look south!
it is clear out - should be able to see this one for a long time!

Anyone watch the Netflix doc on Challener? I watched the first 3 parts last night. Coming home and seeing this on the news was one of my earliest childhood memories (I was 4 1/2), and I always admired the space shuttle program, but I never dug deep into this. There's a big focus on Christa McAuliffe but they seem to be doing a good job of breaking down the problems the shuttle program faced.
