Clean Start

Argh! After good start to the year - solid number of January hours, the curse returns.

Seems every time I get on a little streak, and build some momentum - i get derailed.
This time was really special, as it made me feel old. Like when your parents do something
"dumb" and you see it coming and wonder why they didn't know.
Most of my previous injuries were at least notable, in that I was trying to do something.
This one - dumb.

That second snowfall in January, I'm returning the snowblower to the neighbor's house, and I see some clear ice on
their driveway - I steer clear of it, and go and blow some snow where they have a tight fit for their car.
As I go to leave and put the snowblower in its spot - moving backwards i hit the ice. On my way down,
one word pops into my head. IDIOT.

Instinctively put my hand out splayed - which i would never do snowboarding, and just hammer my palm/wrist.
It hurts, but not too bad. Figure I can ignore it. Didn't wrap it, or take it easy - and after a week, it was hurting
more. Great - so i use one of these braces, and after a couple days it felt much better. I even rode the sourlands
with the brace. Not the best idea, and i'd say it set me back a bit. So shut it down. Probably could have stuck to
riding the zwifter - but now i'm just not in the mental state to get back. Going to try to restart tomorrow. Probably a couple
weeks until I'm really ready to ride - but i'm not sure i'll wait. with the weather warming-up, i might not be able to help myself.

FML - if i fall and break my hip, shoot me.

I don't get the mindset of not going to a doctor. What's the point of health insurance??

After you built it up so much, I expected something spectacular. Feel better, the 1980s bescd should help it heal faster.

This is a bummer, hope you heal up quick. And don't beat yourself up too much. You were in the zone, doing what you were there to do, and got caught by a hidden hazard. Who hasn't been caught off guard by ice?

so i could pay $40 and have them sell me a $100 brace to immobilize it.
it is just a waste. maybe i should post in the DIY xray thread.
Especially since you tend to be an active guy I wouldn't MacGyver any joint injury, if not healed correctly they may reduce the joint mobility and they're going to feel much much worse when you get older. Especially at our venerable age hairline fractures are a possibility, you don't want to deal with the possible consequences of not treating one (hopefully that's not the case).

I don't disagree, but what is the treatment for a hairline fracture? Immobilization?
Probably Rx a nsaid too. Like 600mg ibuprofen. I got that.
Bone not sticking out, so I rubbed some dirt on it. Now I'm def riding my bike tomorrow

I assume you meant the second sonaw fall in February. Either way, you are going on a month, might want to get that checked out..

sounds good - whenever i mentioned it.
it is almost back. if it lingers a couple more weeks i will.

Haha didn't you "treat" a broken finger years ago with popsicle sticks and tape? The point was if something hurts days after an injury you could've torn or fractured something. Not going to a doctor might be the cheap option, but it's never the smart option!

DIY doctors inevitably have dead patients!
