i wasn't able to find anything about how long the guts would last in a suburban park.
Think the animals would clean it up in a day or so?

I think I clipped a deer this morning on the way to go skiing. Fucker jumped out of the woods in front of my truck at 60. I slammed the brakes and all kinds of bike and ski shit went flying forward. I still think I heard something hit my bumper but I couldn’t find a mark.

Only had my leatherman and some ski poles so it would have been on it’s own anyway.

Don't know how long guts last in the woods but I don't think very long. Whenever we have shot deer - either us or guides gut them asap and before moving them.

I'm gonna say greasy. While Temps were cold earlier in the week, yesterday's light rain and warm up probably softened the trails.
Once it gets below freezing again it should be good.

Dawn patrol today. 18° and the trails were pretty good. Thank you fat bike guys for the tracks. It was cold enough last night to keep the snow soft so it rolled well even where they didn’t go. Did blue, white, frisbee golf, orange and red. Lower blue was really icy but doable.

Ice trials out there the last two days. The ice is textured and most sections are completely rideable at 9psi, as long as you don't turn or breathe too hard. It's a bit like skiing on icy trails, you have to plan ahead for when you're likely to have traction for turning and braking.

It would be better with studs. I still have an old set of 26" Nokians in storage, I might build up a vintage ride equipped for these conditions. It's quite lovely out there in general, the park is empty and I'll take this over the mud any day of the week.

Agreed. Love these conditions. Never ride with studs tho. Single speed is best in my opinion.

Good to know, especially now that I'm storing my bike inside the house, at least the one I plan to ride.

Frozen solid! Was there around 2ish but had to cut the ride short due to two mechanicals. From what I saw of red, even the deeper puddles were thick ice. Little mud or even slush since any moisture was frozen. Was slick enough in some spots that discretion won over valor and I dismounted to tread across the sketchier parts.

This section was hike-a-bike for me.

Forgot to add... outside of the bigger ice patches, the conditions were pretty snow free all things considered and rideable. Hoping it stays this way.

Did some blue-white-orange and climbed up the Logan fire road just as the sun was setting. Glorious winter riding.

Was there at 8. Frozen solid. Thermometer in my truck said 10°, parked at Newman’s lot. Lots of ice but mostly rideable. It was cold enough so the ice had a little of that sort of patina it gets when very cold. I saw no one on trail except for a runner during my ride so didn’t risk injury on a couple of the really sketchy spots on lower blue.

IMO somewhat rideable, a few others out as well rode the Americans loop. To be fair was on studded rubbers at about 1pm

I have some studded fat bike tires but didn’t want to mess with my tubeless Marges so I remembered that the Pugsley fork takes 100mm rear axles and I had one laying around…

Unfortunately the way the wheel is dished didn’t quite work out 🙂 so I was back on rubber tires today.

The key thing to remember about ice is that it is perfectly rideable as long as you don’t try to turn or stop!

Did the ballfield side this morning with @w_b.
Icy patches, mostly navigable. I didn't have to get off the bike,
but I was moving rather slowly and deliberately.

The black trails off of the GIlbride lot are closed for construction associated with the pump station.

Yup, conditions identical to yesterday. Did red and blue perimeter. The latter was just as bad as you can expect it to be after this season's precipitation and recent single digit temps. Thick sheets of clear ice in all those spots on lower blue that regularly fill with water. Hoofed it over the worse spots.

Rode blue and red this afternoon. Ice was holding pretty firm, starting to melt in some spots but still no mud to speak of. Tomorrow is hunter’s day so won’t be back til Thursday.
