Post a picture of your next bike part or mtb gear on order!

Thinking of going with 5DEV 155mm cranks with their chainring. I have the 160mm version on the Rise and, to me, made a difference in balance. These will go on the analog bike which has a relatively low BB and pedal strikes galore. Plus, these will help with my short legs.

I'm very curious as to how you will like the mullet setup. I built up my SJ Evo a couple weeks ago and I'm loving it as a 29er but I suppose I am mullet curious...
You're going to have to remain curious, lol. The Cascade link is for progressivity as a 29er, not a mullet. You may be thinking of the Williams (WRP) mullet link.

View attachment 202264I just can’t get along with the DHF on the front. I prefer a tire with transition knobs that allows me to ride the in between of all in and all out. After my debacle with kenda, I went on the hunt. I highly preferred the consistency of the Kenda Hellkat to the DHF in the turns, meaning the felt the same at any angle. But their QC is a joke…

The WTB seems to have a similar pattern with very good reviews in the terrain that I frequent. And 62 bucks isn’t a bad gamble…

You aren't alone, I greatly prefer the DHR2 as a front to the DHF.

It’s funny you mention the DHR2 because that was another tire I was considering. I couldn’t find many meaningful reviews in regards to northeast use. Many reviewers spoke of washouts however it seemed it applied to west coast riding mostly.

After years of running a DHF on the front of my bikes I recently changed to a DHR2. I prefer the DHR2 in the riding I have done since making the switch. It seems to me the DHR has much less of that vague transition zone between the main knobs and the side knobs. That was always my issue with the DHF. If I wasn’t on my cornering game I would lose the front end in that transition zone between the knobs which then destroyed my confidence on the bike for the rest of the ride, or maybe longer. I haven’t had that happen with the DHR2. In fact I‘ve, felt it knife in a few times where I expected a little drift.

Maybe it’s just a sharp new tire?

Maybe it’s confirmation bias?

Mind me asking what trails you frequent?

Same experience here. I've gone back and forth ride to ride with them and it's absolutely a much less controlled cornering tire. I still need to compare to the Assegai next season.

I find the same for Dissector (vague) vs the new Forecaster (controlled) too.

I would agree. I didn't like the Dissector as a front when I tried it. I have a new Forekaster on the rear now and like it quite a lot. Not a fast as the Rekon I had on the rear previously but definitely more grip.

I think the weight of the Assagai pushed me away from it, not that it should at this point.

Dang…you guys have me thinking I wanna try out a DHR 2 in the 2.4 flavor. Honestly I am indifferent to a 2.5 tire (61 bucks for the 2.5 Vigilante is what makes it worth trying but I know it’s a very heavy/slow rolling tire) because I never found it to be much of a traction and comfort difference. But the 2.4 tires in general seemed to roll faster especially on my short travel.

Another tire I really want to try on the front is the Bontrager XR5.

I like the Assagai as a front tire with the DHR 2 on the rear…. I am also running a Dissector on the rear of another bike (140/130 travel) with Assagai up front and I am not pleased with the traction on climbs or corners at the rear!

I feel the same way about the Dissector. There's not enough rear traction (for me). On trails I prefer DHF over the slower rolling and heavier Assegai, especially when cornering.

DHF (f) / DHRII (r) is my preferred combo. I do wish they were lighter.

I run DHR2 in the front, works well for me.
