Motivate Yourself for 2026 Thread

Since 90% of my riding is with Glenn and @Red Mosquito I guess I'll go with what Glenn says except for the ride less part. I'm up 421% in miles this year. (560 zwift) So I want to keep the momentum.
Definitely need to do more TM...
As far as dieting, I don't see me finding will power to change that...
Yeah that all sounds good too but probably won’t do any racing.

More miles. I will only hit 1500 this year, though that’s 226% more than last year. I need to make sure that’s accurate.

More parks. There’s still a ton of NNJ places I have yet to ride (Ringwood, Jungle, Wawayanda)

More places outside of NJ. I squandered my chance to MTB in North Carolina this year.

Plan some sort of destination riding for the late summer or early fall.

I want to do that with you guys. Also for hiking, I am planning out a hut-to-hut thing in the Whites that includes summiting Mount Washington, and maybe an adventure with my sister to Norway.

Biking - want to see beautiful places and not be left behind the bike, so I will keep up with CrossFit (which does translate to bike power) and aim to ride more (indoor and out) so I improve my endurance again. Planning a trip out West in the summer, and possibly a second one in the fall to a different location.

But before all that is ski season! Vermont, Austria, Colorado, Utah.
April 18th. You better start training! The small part you were on was the easiest FYI.

31 miles, goal of under 9 hours! (Joy certainly doesn't have that 9 hour goal)

Get surgery done in Feb - lose 10-15lbs going in (not counting anything I put on before NYE)
A month of recovery - allowed to walk during that time.
Then start the slow ramp-up back, which is fine.
Fire-up the trainer inside, and mostly eBike outside, but i'd like to get back on the fatbike for some local fun.
Depending on how things are feeling, I might have to break out the old HT.

I am still trying to figure out how not to hurt on a semi-daily basis. I don't mean "aches & pains" hurt, I mean more like "my knee hurts and I can't sleep" hurt. The last month+ has been a pretty solid exercise in that regard.

Much like @2Julianas I just want to do a lot of random shit. We haven't taken the hiking step yet but it's on our radar for sure. Climbing Mount Washington has been on my "things I would like to do but probably never will" list for 25 years.

Biking is really dependent on how much I can handle. We do have a fall trip sort of in mind, somewhere. We need to figure out where.

Ski trips to Vermont, Canada, Colorado. I wish I could add Utah to that or go back to Big Sky. But vacation days are spent already for a family trip to Iceland.

I wish I had an event that interested me. We had one for Arizona in February but that plug got pulled.

Love reading everyone's different goals.. lots of ideas there.
I'm just over a year into serious mtn biking and getting in shape. 290 > 215 since Dec 20 last year... My pass out area on trails is now when I'm just getting warmed up. Need to continue the progress. Did first race at Dickerson Mine's Endurance, definitely wanting to race more this spring (recommendations?)... just to race and have fun and hit personal goals. Want to get on a real trainer if possible... hit endurance and FTP goals.... and get a real weight training program going. Also want to ride more places in NJ and surrounding areas.
I'm also getting big into the NICA team my 6th grade son is on. Having a great time organizing that and getting out with the kids. Want to grow the number of middle schoolers we have. And yes... gotta give back with some TM. Tomorrow at 6 mile will be my first.

Yeah, motivation last year was tough. Too much stress at work and not enough good stress in the saddle. I was down in mileage and up in weight so my big goal is to reverse that trend. Im doing the Vermont Overland again and have decided to do some of the MASS series again this year. Want to hit the Cider Stomper in the fall, and to get ready for all of it lose 15 lbs or so. Doing dry January and adding February this year as well, hope to keep it up- that behavior just creeps back in because of habit, events and other completely unnecessary things. Watching my HRV tank with any evening I have more than one drink is helping to see how cardiotoxic alcohol really is.

OK so I'm not the only one w/ aging items on my list, PHEW!

In a similar boat, I have a few trips that are interesting to me, but would be better done not alone, and of my friends that ride none are remotely possible to organize any sort of big trip with.

HRV tanking after a few is very noticeable on my end. And sleep sucks too. Thanksgiving weekend really messed up my progress and have buckled down this week so far.
