The Guitar Player Thread.

Absolute beast. 27” scale with 22 frets. Weighs almost twice as much as my DL8. But that’s how Meshuggah sound like Meshuggah 😍

Compared to my DL8.

Brings me back to the first time I saw Meshuggah during the Nothing Tour. My drummer was the sound guy at Starland at the time so I got to watch from the board on the side of the stage. Frederick was standing alongside me waiting to go on stage with what was at the time the prototype for the M80, which was the first 8-string ever. That guitar wasn’t available to the public, so I had to wait until they launched the 2228 before I could own an 8 and I’ve owned one ever since…
You probably have them already but neural dsp has all the Fortin suites 50% off right now…

Cool looking guitar. I've never tried an 8 string (I have enough trouble with 6...), but I'm sure I'll get one someday. It seems like a fanned fretboard design would work well for an 8 string?

My last one was a fanned fret. I liked it but have gotten used to normal frets when I bought the DL8. Everyone should own the base Ibanez R8. They’re like $500 used so it’s fun to just have.

Part of me says I’ll never spend that much on a pedal… then I see it has two channels of gain and a built in noise gate…..

I’m not really a pedal guy at all but this says Meshuggah on it and that usually gets my wallet to open 😂

I do have a vintage Whammy pedal and a Petrucci Wah.

I have so many pedals is almost comical. I've literally kept every pedal I've ever bought back to the Boss ME-5 that I bought back in the late 80s that was my first pedal.

What's really amusing is how I generally play straight into an amp and rarely use pedals...

But I keep buying the damn things...

Similar to my collection of rack gear that will likely never leave the house... do I use it? Rarely... but I keep adding to it... like I put a deposit down on the upcoming Headfirst rack pre-amp... ignoring the fact I have an ADA MP-1 and MP-2 - the latter I bought new.

As soon as the band stopped playing live I sold like 100k worth of shit and bought a Boss Ninja 1x12. Only thing I kept was my original Whammy, a Boss tuner and a 90's Talman.

When I stopped playing in a band back in the mid 90s, I did sell off some gear to help fund my increasing bike-habit... but I did keep a few things... about half of my guitars... my ADA rack pieces... my Fender Dual Showman head... a Peavey 4x12 cab (now traded to my friend for his studio). As I look around my office (which is also my music room), about 75% of the gear I have was purchased within the last 10 years... for better or worse, I've always enjoyed the gear side of playing and now I have the disposable income to feed that itch when it strikes me.

If I buy anything, even another mic I'll have to put an addition on!

Yeah... I know what you mean...

And that's not everything... there's another length of slatwall on the wall to my left with three guitars hanging on it. There are three acoustic guitars in cases in my bedroom. My main Strat on a stand in the living room. And another half-dozen guitars and a couple of amps on loan at my friend's studio.

How much did it cost to have your house reinforced enough to hold that many Les Pauls?

LOL!
Nothing... yet... the 71' Standard on the end and the '79 Custom next to it are a bit portly but are only average for their eras. The two Firebrands and the Studio aren't heavy by Les Paul standards.

The FTM33 I just bought is my first step into the Les Paul weight category. I get like 30 minutes with it in my lap before my leg turns blue and falls asleep 😂

I've played a Les Paul for so long the weight doesn't bother me. I've had the black Studio since 1988. I used to have a 1980 Custom (the one guitar I really regret selling) during the band days - that one was pretty heavy. Really light guitars feel weird to me. I have a Keisel Vader and it feels like nothing on a strap. And it's not the lightest version - maple neck-thru w/ mahogany wings and a book-matched walnut top and a trem. It's a nice guitar for travel, but that's about all I use it for.

This 74 is almost 10 lbs! Heavier than my Les Paul. Stark contrast to the 68 Thinline. Both totally different animals though. (Acknowledging both are old man guitars...)20241011_134311.jpg20241011_134339.jpg
