6 Mile Run Conditions

Blue is in bad shape

Anybody got one of those 2 person lumber jack saws?

Most of the work needed is on the blue (clear after the long bridge) and the lower part of the red.

White and orange are clear.

We completely cleared the blue from canal road to the old yellow trail today.

We must have cut out 50+ fallen trees.

yes, but it isn't sharp, and don't know where to get it done (guess i could look) on the other hand, have 2 - 20" chainsaws, and a pole saw.....

nice work Jdog - sorry i missed it.

Maybe just sharpen it with a dremmel?
They look fun! I'll try to sharpen it If you want but I wanna use it!

Since I doubt I will be out here on a bike until i cut out all the trees..

Can you guys tell me where the most trees are still on the ground blocking the trail?

I am going to try and get another day of cutting in shortly.

I did a loop on the canal side this morning. Big thanks to those who have cleared/rerouted on the blue trail, I was shocked at how many trees came down in that first section after the canal lot.
The section of red that isn't on the jorba map (to Canal Road) has some big trees blocking the trail.

Did a full loop today and have noticed some areas which are in dire need of some chainsaw lovin'. I started out at canal lot and went blue to red, cross S. Middlebush Rd., to orange to 27 lot. Then came back orange to red to Canal lot.

I'll try to take you through this in order, the first thing I noticed is the new found fun and excitement all the work that was put into clearing and retouting the blue trail up to the blue/yellow intersection. All of you who sweat and bled to accomplish what has turned out to be the worst part of the damage, please know your work was well appreciated! From the blue/yellow intersection on still needs a crew with a chainsaw to remove numerous downed small trees which block the trail. The field sections look good(of course) until you get to the small through the woods section(right before those four flat top bridges) there is a huge tree that blocks the trail(go around is an option). Continuing on, and over the long bridge across the muddy area, there is a huge tree blocking the trail that needs to be chainsawed. From there to the metal bridge looks good but has a load if sticks and branches to be removed.

Once you cross over South Middlebush, it's a disaster! Right at the entrance is still some downed trees which should be removed and several downed trees and huge branches all the way to the new long bridge. One you cross over the concrete bridge it gets worse. From that bridge to the arched bridge lies several huge trees that need to be removed with a chainsaw and crew. One in particular lies directly over those left/right double burms. From there on it all looks well until you get to the "billy goat section" near the 27 lot which has tree that needs to be cut blocking the trail.

On the way back I took the red trail(expressway) and it looks good until right before the red/ orange intersection where there lies two trees crossing the trail (go around?)

As I bear left at the blue/red intersection, I took the red all the way back to the the canal lot. Small maintenance would be the best way to describe it from that intersection to the red/red intersection. The last 3/4 mile of the red where the big dips are is a disaster and needs a lot of help and saws. It is unrideable in that section and I strongly urge no one ride it until it has been cleared.

On another note, I met a nice lady in the canal lot when I got back and would like to know if she could please send me a PM and a friend request.

That's my report - enjoy the trails and be safe!

What next?

So based on what you have seen out there..

Is it best to start at S. Middlebush and head toward 27 next?

I think I am going to head out again this Tuesday am.

I have to work Tuesday but I have all day tomorrow free on my schedule.

I would start at the 27 lot and take care of that 1 tree near the lot first.
Next i would go from South Middlebush and work your way toward 27 is the way to tackle it.

Then I suggest parking at the canal lot and walking up the red trail. There's a few huge ones in that first 1/2 mile.

J - can meet you out there tuesday around 830 -

Great meet me at S. middlebush road trail crossing.. We will walk on foot toward 27. I have the key to the gate so we can park there .

8:30 unless it is absolutely pouring.

They are calling for light rain w/ does not bug me.

If we make some good progress we will go and clear the red trail as well.

Guy complained to me today that the downed tree that is notched out on the blue shouldn't be there because the horse people can't get over the tree. Now, I was polite and blah blah blah but if it bothers the horse folk, let them get out there and do something about it. Or am i totally off base on this. I'm often wrong, or so im told. I really dig that obstacle.
