Raritan 911: Robocop

Was there actually a cat in there? I can't imagine they made it from Clifton without the cat eventually coming out and destroying everyone in the car.

Dear Carson,

As I rode through Branchburg today I saw 2 cop cars. One was a nice new Explorer and the other was a beat Crown Vic that appeared to be past it's golden years of transporting suburban DUIs and motel hookers. This got me wondering how the squad cars are allocated. Is it first come first serve? Seniority? Do specific cars get assigned to specific officers?

Sincerely,
Secretly hoping this leads to a funny story.

You know I didn't even ask the officer the responded. The rest of us just texted him during the call about "*****", etc. I'll ask tonight.

Sorry, nothing funny comes to mind.

It depends on the department, but mostly it's by seniority. There are exceptions. I was in a brandy new car but after surgery this summer I requested to be assigned to an SUV, which is older but more comfy for my old bones. We also keep a few beaters for road jobs, the school resource officer, and odd jobs. They aren't used for regular patrol duties.

Branchburg has or had a fat bastard that was so big, they kept around a Crown Vic so he could get in and out of it. For serious. He wore slippers instead of boots because kankles. He was also like 6'7". He was a sight to see. He may have retired by now though.

there is a parking area for the older cars behind the municipal building, i think the mechanics like to mess around and keep them running.

Dudeman was my 2nd grade dare officer.

The Crown Vics in the town I live in are now the dummy speed trap cars. Everyone's got an Exploder now, and a couple of Taurus interceptors.
Same thing with Sheriff's dept. , couple of beater Crown Vics for general use around the County complex, everything else is new SUV or sedan police interceptors.

Crown Vics had their days, but now:
This was a bargain. I picked it up at the Mount Prospect City police auction last spring. It's an old Mount Prospect police car. They were practically giving them away.
It's got a cop motor, a four hundred and forty cubic inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters, so it'll run good on regular gas.

Four fried chickens and a coke.

Does #77 (report aggressive driving) work?

Over 35k miles commuting to work I've dialed it twice. Last night, when it was raining/sleeting and aggressive driver flashes everyone and in and out of lanes. I made sure to catch his plate.

Then this morning, I've seen this Merc GLE a few times already charging the fast lane flashing. Cutting people off with a few feet to spare. In the end, gets no where really after a few miles. It's 8am man. You are not getting anywhere that faster worth and accident or life. What is wrong with people. Always on I-80. Plus, I don't think he even has winter tires on.

I do not miss route 80 and barely ever touch it. 27 years of that NYC commute was more then my heart could handle. Fuck that highway and all Aholes that travel it!

It works. It's no different than calling 9-1-1, however. NJSP is spread pretty thin. Whether or not they have a trooper in the area of your a-hole driver is an entirely different question.

UPDATE: Been a quiet set of midnights. Nothing to note lately.
