Where do you buy your cycling clothes?

  • Local Bike Shop

  • Online from a retailer (e.g. Competitive Cyclist)

  • Online direct from brand (e.g. Rapha)

  • I haven't bought new bike clothes in years - my wife buys all my clothes (this is legitimate)

  • I haven't bought new bike clothes in years - brands pay me to wear clothes (I'm a baller)

  • I haven't bought new bike clothes in years - I like the smell of my old clothes

  • I haven't bought new bike clothes in years - I only wear team gear

These questions apply to your non-team issue cycling apparel...

I'm also interested to hear what brands you buy. @stb222 no need to reply, we already know your answer. 😉

Daminit, I already voted!

The winter sale just ended and I think I filled some minor holes in my kit as well as back-filled some bibs that are nearing the end.

Not sure which category I'd fit in here ... I have my own custom kits made through DRV, but my team manager is a dick who won't let me have them for free.

I have had good luck with Performance bike stuff. I just get whats on sale. Winter gear I go with chinese 4cycling.

i have hand-me-downs and jerseys from rides i have done. i do need new bike shorts. haven't bought them in a loooong time.

I buy online and at the LBS. Pearl Izumi for road rides, that the LBS carries. The LBS however has a woeful MTB selection. I prefer to wear Club Ride, that I usually get directly from Club Ride, often with a little bit of a discount because I know the rep and he's a good dude. All of you should try the CR stuff out, and all of you LBS's should start carrying it.

hmm, I think I have 1 pair of PI amfib bib tights that my MIL bought me for christmas 2 years ago, my lake boots I bought used on here, won my high viz jacket at the 2010 horseshoe race...I think the only cycling clothing I have that I actually purchased online was a closeout mavic helmet, pair of PI gloves. Other than that all my gear is made in the mtbnj sweat shop or a few pair of gloves I get in the 1/2 price bin at the LBS....size XXXL hands make for cheap gloves. Oh my shoes I buy from Halters.

Just about all of my non-team kits and bibs are Pearl Izumi. For the price, I think they feel great and have lasted me for years so far. Most of my arm, leg, and knee warmers are chinaBay except for a few PI pieces.

Online pricing is just killing it these days for components, apparel, no tax, no shipping and half off. Just ordered pearl izumi elite shorts for 50 bucks total and that was my first purchase in years. Snakeskin tires 60. Or maybe it's the stronger dollar for purchasing power.

Hmmm, cool brand. Just checked out their website - looks like interesting stuff.

@Monkey Soup @Blair When you buy online, do you have trouble with figuring out sizing? That's usually where I end up abandoning my cart.
that's the caveat, I know what pearl izumi size I am so I just reorder the same as what I have. I'm sure every brand is different. I'm usually large MTB stuff and XL road. I also like things a little loose, otherwise it's like a sausage casing and uncomfortable in my opinion.

I've been wearing Pearl stuff for years, so I know my sizing. Buying Jerseys from CR is easy, size large for me. MTB shorts are a different story, I need a couple of new pairs, and those I have to try first. I have a pair of Endura Humvee's which are bomb-proof, but would like something lighter for the summer. I find that if you want a good pair of shorts, you'll need to pay over $90-100, and I need to try them on before I drop that kind of cabbage.

That is wear free returns comes in to play, which can be an issue with amazon or the discount sites. Even with knowing your sizing, sometimes things are just cut weird from a manufacturer where you are always "x" size.
