6 Mile Run Conditions

@jdog @clarkenstein
i'd say to not remove any fallen trees right now, wait for a month, let trails dry first.
i was on road today and saw some a~!@#$s launching from Canal parking lot around 10:20am

I was thinking the same thing... but I would rather do this pre-poison ivy and gnat/mosquito explosion. They are going out trees in the way or not.

Now clear from middlebush to the elevated boardwalk (Alex k highway). Decided to check out blue on the way back. Cleared two trees, then got to the bridge right by the where the trails split close to middlebush. Gonna need a bigger boat. The trail is in there somewhere.

I noticed on today's road ride going down canal road that the state contracted a firm from Ohio (really? Couldn't find local guys) to clear downed trees on the towpath and canal. Their trucks were all over. Why don't they clear 6mr as well?

They don’t see 6mr as a priority from my per view. I’d assume that if we didn’t clear it, it would never be cleared. Just as without our efforts, there would be no trails here. The assumption seems to be that the canal sees more user hours. I’d love to know the real truth

The guys from Ohio were likely the low bid. I spoke with them yesterday, they have tons more work, but apparently a rare bat is active around April 1st and they must vacate the months end.. or it was an April’s fools joke.

I decided to check out red from Jacques versus picking back up on blue. I went in maybe a few hundred feet and hit the first downed tree. Cleared a whopping 2/10ths of a mile this morning. I would say it’s a tree down every 30 feet or so. Trails are very soft and showing signs of erosion from run-off. Oh and ruts. Lots of ruts.

Wow that's rabbit run - I thought you were on the other side of Middlebush. West wind across that field contribute to all the blowdowns?

We started tree clearing from the 27 side this morning on the Red and Orange, three hours of clearing, much more to do.

Do you know if there is any trail maintenance scheduled for 6MR that some of us could volunteer and help out?
