I predicted this shitshow. Any company that gets refunds won't be able to celebrate because there are already multiple class action suits on behalf of consumers who most likely paid most of the $ in the end. Consumers shouldn't rejoice, either. After the lawyers take their cut, we'll get...
So, what's the status of this "little loop"? It's on privately owned land I'm assuming. If the owners give up (sounds like they won't) and the land becomes public somehow, it'll probably just get added to the inventory of places in Essex County where we can't ride.
$600 for a dumpster is hard to swallow, but a decent sized deck could require 4 trips to the dump and a few hundred bucks in fees and gas. If you have extra room in the dumpster, you might be able to get a neighbor or two to share the cost if they have crap they want to get rid of.

Seems like it would be technically feasible to do a singlespeed. Motor could provide appropriate amount of assist to make up for the lack of gears. More demand on motor and affects range, I'm sure. What about a small 3 or 4 speed gearbox integrated with the motor?
You'd think the billion dollar bike companies would've thought of this by now. Especially Shimano, since they make both motors and components. Shimano and Bosch have been doing ebike motors for about 15 years now.
On a separate thought, do ebikes really need gears and derailleurs? EV's don't...
Gas powered cars can run out of gas. Modern versions require a stupid funnel to refill from a can. Y'know, just in case any diehard petro-heads are feeling superior about the range anxiety thing...
Nice. I still have that vintage Merlin jersey. That may have been the last time I could kinda hang with @Dave Taylor before he became an absolute monster on the bike. Not a technical course by any means, but always well run and fun. It was full gas for an entire 50 minutes.
