Schwalbe NN blowout during install -- twice! Rim, tire or user issue?

Before receiving the reply from Schwalbe, I went ahead and mounted a gently used Nobby Nic (like 100 mi old). It went on and seated pretty easily, with just a little bit of soapy water to help get the last bit of bead to go. Probably 30-35 psi max to install it. And then I got the email reply...

Schwalbe NN blowout during install -- twice! Rim, tire or user issue?

Last week I had a third Schwalbe tire blow off the rim (thankfully in my garage and not while riding). This time a Hans Dampf 2.6 on a Bontrager Line Elite 30 with the stock Bontrager TLR rim strip. Bead was stretched and broken at the problem area. No other apparent issues with the rim...

    Generic Pro Road Cycling Thread

Oh wow, I missed that in the recap. Huge on the bike save. Sepp Kuss trying to swap the battery on his SRAM rear derailleur - while descending a mountain! - is probably the most bonkers thing I've seen. .

    SRAM Force chain ring failure

I agree, their products are pretty solid so it's disappointing to see such a fragile design. I had two shimano cranks explode, which played a factor in wanting to try sram. Funny, I was just thinking about how to go without the plastic cover. Guess I'd need to find an appropriate nut? Or...

    SRAM Force chain ring failure

I have two bikes with Sram Force gen 1 chain rings. A while back I noticed cracks developing in the outer plastic cover on both bikes, but the internets suggested this was cosmetic so I ignored it. Recently, however, while trying to diagnose a constant clicking noise when pedaling, I realized...

2025 Fun some days at Chimney Rock, led by Steve

100% the most fun I've ever had on a Monday. I'm skeptical that such fun can be had on other days of the week. Great lead @Glenn Rides After 4 PM CST

    2025 Garden Thread

Curious if you experts here have a preferred "cover crop" for dormant planters. We won't be home a lot this summer so we want to reduce garden maintenance. We put in a ton of garlic which is growing nicely, but still have two empty 4x6 planters. I was going to throw a bunch of beans in there...

    DT Swiss Front Thru Axle w/ Removable Lever - 12x100 (M12x1.5) - $25

This is the version with the removable lever. I find it super handy as you don't need to fumble for a multi-tool to remove your wheels -- one less thing to worry about when everyone is standing around watching you fix your flat. Note: it's a 1.5mm thread pitch so make sure it works for your...

What have you done to your bike today?

Decided to try this $35 piece of aluminum. The stock plastic preload thread ring came off surprisingly easily. Fortunately I already had green loctite 638 on hand - glued it up and let it dry for a couple hours. It certainly seems sturdier than the plastic preloader, but honestly I don't think...

    NY towns like New Hope

I know you said NY, but Milford PA was a surprisingly pleasant spot for a weekend. Just a thought. Otherwise I'd say Beacon is probably more like New Hope. New Paltz would be better if you want quick access to hiking + farms, but not as interesting for restaurants etc.
