I know several people on here deal with it…

It’s recently become a problem for me with my hands. I’ve noticed it more and more since I quit drinking, and I know nerve damage is a symptom of long term alcoholism that I will have to deal with. Maybe it will get better with time…maybe not.

Has anyone found things that help for riding? Grips, bar config, gloves, nutrition, etc?

It’s really frustrating having to take a hand off the bars every few minutes to shake it out…

There’s a new shuttle park not far from me that I want to check out but I don’t want to be mid run and lose the ability to brake properly, ya know?

What y’all got?

Mine is all below my knees so I've got nothing to help, but good luck.

It's not socially acceptable but I run Ergons with the bar ends on all of my bikes. I also take some Plants Basically drops every morning. It's a hippie snake oil product made by an ex BMX bro but it actually works.

Yeah I got wrecked by a bar end when I was younger, so no lol. Interested in the plants basically though… would probably help my knee that I snapped in half earlier this year.

Farmers carries with appropriate weight kettle bell. Anything with a kettlebell really. Helps alot with the grip and many times with cycling (especially technical stuff) you need to relax because you'll find your actually over gripping the bars...

Rolling brake levers up so there more parallel with the ground, stops you from using your thumb like a hook . Run levers as close to the bars as possible. Ditch lock on grips , I only use odi longneck bmx style thin , comfortable and installed with spray paint never spin .

I ride with a very loose grip even on extreme DH trails. I learned a long time ago not to tense up and grip too tight…good advice though, most people do clench too tight.

I’ll try that with the brake levers. I feel like shifter position is also a problem. It’s usually my thumb that goes to hell first. I need to get back on the ODI slip ons I was using them when I was racing enduro don’t remember why I stopped but the pnw lock ons I have right now are terrible.

I agree with the comment about brakes levers - closer to level with the ground and adjust the grab point so it's closer to the grip. I made that change based on set-up advice from a Shaums March DH training session I did back in 2001. Made for a huge reduction in frequency and severity of arm pump.

It'll be a cold day in Hell before I give up my lock-on grips, but grips are more of a personal thing - sort of like saddles. I find what I like and buy a crap-ton of them to have as spares. You may need to try a bunch of different grips before you find ones that agree with you. At least they aren't terribly expensive.

If the shifter bothers you, it might be worth test riding a bike with electronic shifting to see if that helps. I notice it more with the dropper post, but I've definitely noticed how much easier it is to shift on my Megatower or Heckler (both AXS) vs. my Spot with XTR shifters - and XTR shifting is already pretty light by mechanical shifting standards.

AXS! Use your FSA $$

Keep the grips in your fingers not across your palm - look at where the pads are on the gloves, don't let the bars get between them.
I doubt you lean on your hands, cause you wouldn't be able to do what you do
