Ships Log: Fat Aircraft carrier war games

My bro is a 3rd generation auto body repairman. I had to fix my first car when I was 15/16. It was a stock 4speed Ford Escort that we made an escort GT with racing stripes. Replaced quarter panel, fenders rocker panels, etc. Reinstall interior. sanded everything. My Dad did the painting. That...

Chronicles of a Cat 3 Schlub

The thing I love most about MTBing is not having to pin my number to my jersey.

My trek from middling Cat 3 roadie to MTBer

That’s a wrap to my first full MTB season. Gotta say, I’m pretty happy with how things turned out. Solid race today! I was super stoked to finish in 2nd place. I was pretty stressed out pre-race. Always a little tougher when you’re flying blind. Bulldog Rump was the only race I’ve done this...

Overlooked Jeremy’s post above. Looks like a good short course. Any insight on key features obstacles to be aware of are appreciated.

Can you describe the terrain? Ive never ridden that area. Is there a lot of vegetation, rocks, roots? How are the rocks? sharp, round? What’s the elevation gain per lap? Is it rolling, punchy, longer climbs? Thanks in advance.

Cat 2 races is only 6 Miles? Sort of disappointing.

    Tubeless for CX

Asking for a friend regarding tubeless. I ran tubulars in every race after Nittany CX. I ran PDX clinchers there. Crashed 3 times in that race and now only ride them on the Columbia Trail.

Chronicles of a Cat 3 Schlub

Good work @MadisonDan , you looked great when I saw you. KVSP was a fun course. I was a little unsure how the rain would effect the course after having pre-ridden the course when it was dry. I was happy with the conditions for the most part and they seemed to improve in second lap.

2018 H2H Point Peter Pounder (Port Jervis)

Looking forward to this race. I hear its low on tech. what are the stones like? Ive heard more shale and round stones than typical north jersey rocks.

My trek from middling Cat 3 roadie to MTBer

Happy with 4th place today. I really wanted a podium, but those guys ahead of me were just too strong to catch. Team Bulldog did a great job with course prep and all of the obstacles were removed. Was happy that the widow maker was removed. I was hoping to get into the woods a little closer to...

    2018 H2H Bulldog Rump (Kittatinny)

Heard it rumble through last night around 3am. Yesterday riding Nassau it was very dry and dusty. I was thinking that a little rain would actually help the trails. Hope that is the case at KVSP as well. The radar looked rough up there, though. Fortunately, it’s supposed to clear mid morning...

My trek from middling Cat 3 roadie to MTBer

Feeling that positive nervous tension and excitement before the race tomorrow. I get this feeling before every race that feels sort of important to me. It’s usually a good sign. It is intense on the line, but subsides about 90 seconds after the start. Can’t wait to race. About to go hit my...

    2018 H2H Bulldog Rump (Kittatinny)

I was mainly talking about that widow maker too. I almost hit it both times on the pre-ride. It needs to be marked as a hazard for sure. At speed it will come up fast. Not sure what people love about big ass logs that basically destroy your chainrings. Seems like a penis measuring sort of thing...

    2018 H2H Bulldog Rump (Kittatinny)

I’m curious If those two big logs will be removed from the course. I’m assuming the downed tree in the second half will be removed. Also, hope there’s some warning prior to passing under that one tree early on the course. At speed and in a large group that’s an accident waiting to happen.

    2018 H2H Bulldog Rump (Kittatinny)

Good time this morning. Glad I went out and rode the course. More techy than I had hoped, less techy than I had feared. Also found out the screw on my rear triangle was lose, which was a good find. Wondered what all the squeaking was.
