    Spoke and nipple recommendations

Going to build my own wheels this winter. Narrowed down the wheels to either the DT Swiss EX511 or Stans Flow Mk4 and going to continue to use DT Swiss 350 hubs. Interested in opinions on spokes and nipples, DT Swiss or Sapin? Like the idea of using aluminum Sapin nipples to add a bit of...

Flow Mk4 or EX511? Trail and park

My Bronson will need new rims over the winter. I ride trails and bike parks. I’ve narrowed it down to the Flow Mk4 or EX511. Looking for opinions on these or other aluminum enduro rims. Thanks.

    New to Boulderama

We recently moved about 15 minutes from Sourland and after 3-4 rides I think I have my tour down. It doesn’t involve Boulderama. I tried it 3 weeks ago and decided to walk after 1/4 way down. Is there a way to describe the ‘line(s)’ or do I have to hook up with a local. Would really like to...

    Different rotors for Dominion A4

What are the consequences, if any, of using a thicker or thinner 203 mm rotor (to be specific) on Hayes Dominion A4s? Hayes D-series are 1.95 mm thick, Galfer Wave are 1.8 and 2 mm thick, and (I think) Shimano Ice Tech are 1.8 mm. I suppose .05 mm might cause clearance issues, but it’s hard to...

Chimney rock Saturday or Sunday morning.

Planning to take my second ride at Chimney Rock, was hoping to hook up with someone or a group to show the best route. Would appreciate patience with a rider struggling to get miles this year (I.e not slow but not setting KOMs)

    Where to watch Olympic cycling

Does anyone know if the MTB races will be televised and which channel? They’re at 2am so could record a bunch of both NBC channels-would prefer not. Been looking around can’t find anything that says ‘this channelI’ definitively. Thanks

    Kingdom Trails or Lake Placid

I’m starting plan my yearly bike and camp trip. This will be mid-week after July 4th. Really can’t decide on KT or LP. Which ever I do this year, the other gets checked off next year. for me KT has been a bucket list but the stuff Barkeaters has built in LP looks equally interesting. looking for...

Hillsboro to chimney rock on MTB

I’m getting some work done on my car in Hillsboro Saturday morning. Google maps says it’s 8 miles and about an hour to get to Chimney Rock from US-206, who’s is OK as the estimate is 3-5 hours, but not OK because that a long time on pavement, in traffic, on an MTB. Wondering if locals had...

    New Catskills Trails?

I found new (to me) trails marked on TF, Overlook Trail near Woodstock and dotted line trails near Balsam Lake (Dry Brook Ridge Trail). Are these new multi-purpose trails? I’ve been burned by TF around Beacon, so thinking these are hiking trails and are now open to MTB but may not be all the...

    Areas for improvement

I was hiking on Hutchinson and Redback on Sunday and found a couple areas on Hutchinson that look like they will require some rock work. These areas are on Hutchinson just north of where Redback takes off to the left. The trails were surprisingly dry and firm expect the spots that appear to be...

Like new road tires: Continental GP5000-approximately 5 miles - $100 pair

Size: 700-25. Selling because I didn't do the research to understand, unlike MTB tires, not all road tires are tubeless compatible. These are not the tubeless version. Mounted once and ridden 5 miles. Folding bead, black chili. Price pretty firm; if they don't sell I'll put tubes back in...

    Rear Shock Compatibility Across Brands

I'm thinking of upgrading to a '20 Bronson frame this winter and swapping out the stock DPX2 with a DHX2 and new lower link. I'm curious how hard it will be to sell the stock shock. I've read a few articles years ago that indicated that manufacturers work with suspension companies to custom...

    New to Wildcat, route suggestions

I'll be checking out Wildcat for the first time, hopefully make up for last week's exploration let down. Looking at the routes on Trailforks, here's my current route plan: park at Rt.513 and lower Hibernia road and do the 14 mile loop on TF counter clockwise; south on Beach Glen West, Beach...

    Beacon trails and parking

I'm thinking of riding Beacon, NY this weekend since it'll feel more like May than October. I have a route planned to climb the fire tower road and repeat from partial descents and climbs before descending all the way to Rt. 9. I haven't been there in over 7 years, is there still parking at or...

    Tannerville Trails info

Has anyone ridden the Tannerville trails; Chickies Loop, Ritalin, Thriller? The mileage isn't great but they look really great. Thinking of combining them with Elm Ridge for a full day of riding. Also thinking of hitting up Twin Peaks for pre-ride coffee and donut and burger afterwards (can't...
