    Tariffs...what to make of them.

I know... didn't want to think about things you don't think about... Something about repeating a lie often enough until it becomes fact... it really feels like Germany circa 1930s...

    Tariffs...what to make of them.

One amusing/frightening meme I saw suggested DJT is looking for the US to get so embroiled into some sort of conflict that by the time 2028 rolls around, his team will come up with some excuse to suspend National elections. Granted, there's a solid chance DJT himself will be a drooling...

    Tariffs...what to make of them.

I can imagine arguments for either path... but with oil prices relatively low and the cost of capital rising, it's hard to make a case for investing resources into another oil supply that isn't really needed. Unless the goal is to put US oil production out of business. Which I'm sure OPEC would...

    Tariffs...what to make of them.

The arguments I've heard so far is none of the US oil companies want anything to do with Venezuelan oil. The infrastructure there is barely functional after decades of neglect and as far as US refining is concerned, was "replaced" some time ago by the Canadian Oil Sands output which is a...

    Bike industry failing?

From what I gather as someone who watches too much YouTube, revenue is a spiral based on what videos advertisers want to put ads on. For a spell, mtn biking was "hot" and advertisers wanted to get their ads in front of those eyeballs. Similar for the vanlife and RV crowd. But everything is...

    Bike industry failing?

Stumbled across this video and it made me think of this thread. If you don't want to watch the 26 min ramble, it's basically a small shop owner/operator in Fredrick, MD coming to terms with the fact he made as much money in 2025 as he did in 2024 by selling fewer bikes at higher prices and...

What beer are you drinking RIGHT NOW?

The cinnamon and ginger notes are strong, and the 12.5% ABV is not hidden at all. I have three more bottles of this, but they will definitely need to age for a few years (at least...) before I open another one.

Trail Maintenance - don't do this

I'm reminded of the ivy in my backyard. I think it was there when we moved in back in 1992 (my mother may have planted it in some delusional idea of having ground cover in a heavily shaded area, but I honestly don't remember) but keeping it under control is... difficult. What I really need to...

Tell me where you rode today...

park lots were closed, so we had to park on the street... The trails pretty much all looked like this, but traction was better than expected. Except on the paved paths - those have not been treated at all (probably why the lot gates were closed) and were rather treacherous.

Bring a Trailer - OMFG or On Topic

It's definitely one of the main reasons I keep waffling about keeping the White Whale (my 1992 E350 diesel conversion van) or getting a new(er) Transit 350. There are pluses and minuses to both... but from a pure "keep it until I die" POV, the E350 makes a strong case. It's a pre-emissions...

Bring a Trailer - OMFG or On Topic

My WAG is the Body Control Module (or whatever Honda calls it...) is acting up. They can really be the bane of modern cars and will eventually brick an otherwise perfectly good vehicle, regardless of the brand. In theory, an open-source PLC could replace it, but getting the code out of it to...

    Micro compressors?!

I have the larger Fanttik model, but I always forget I have it. I've meant to get one of the smaller versions for my pack since it would probably work better than a compact pump. Granted, it would be one more thing I'd have to remember to charge once in a while...

Managed to get a ride in before the snow... Tree down on the "freeride" line... Shadow did well, although she was quick to jump into the back of the car when we finished.

    E-bikes are a thing

Well... looks like the Athertons are about to release an e-bike. Should be an interesting - and almost certainly expensive - bike. But given the experience with my Heckler, I'm definitely cautious about buying an e-bike without an established dealer support system.

What beer are you drinking RIGHT NOW?

Neshaminy Creek Brewing "The Shallow End" stout. Lamenting the discontinuation of Leon Russian imperial stout, but I did pick up a few bottles of the current two barrel aged offerings to add to the collection.
