    Shock Rebuild Question

It's more about reducing corrosive potential in bicycle shocks. If you will service it regularly, atmospheric air won't hurt it...if you don't, though, there's a good chance to simply start corroding the shims/other assorted parts.

    Chain Wax Discussion thread

Glass is better. Plastic damps the vibes (literally). I have quite expensive cleaning solution that is used for removing scale from brass/steel for watches/clocks, so filling an entire tank would be dumb. I just fill a shallow glass dish and prop it up on a couple of upturned tumblers in the...

    Pay it Forward

@THATmanMANNY I'll check in the morning to see what I've got. Worst case, you'll need to stack washers under the bolt if I don't have the right diameter.

Hold the wedge in line with the stem, and get a measurement from the top where the bolt head rests, to the bottom of the wedge. That looks like a standard M8, which I should have. You can porch pickup it (Colts Neck or Keansburg), or I can pass it along.

What have you done to your bike today?

Many composite bikes have co-molded inserts. It's possible to replace them, but it's a major pain (you need to make one, pretty much, and it will never be as strong as original).

    The DIY thread - DIYourself

As much as I enjoy the process...I've hand-planned too many boards to find it a good use of time 😂

A power planer will be faster than sanding. Hit it with 220 before coating with polyurethane.

    Dropper - What to buy?

If you get a V2 oneup, you CAN service the cartridge. You need to make a tool to unscrew the bottom of the cartridge though.

Relacing a wheelset using a rim with a slightly smaller ERD

probably not an issue. there's typically 8-10mm after the threads.

Relacing a wheelset using a rim with a slightly smaller ERD

If it's a double wall rim (and they were sized to hit the bottom or top of the slot), it won't make a bit of difference. You can thread a spoke on with about 3mm of extra sticking out. Also depends on who measured the ERD. Never assume it's accurate.

What have you done to your bike today?

Yep, it's a modern one. He went deep down 29+/fat full suspension. I enjoyed my Stache so much, that when I bought a full suspension, it was Lenz, or Funk. Trek had released a full suspension version of the Stache, but it was...not well received. If they had just made an expanded triangle...

What have you done to your bike today?

Deferred maintenance: I replaced the pivot bearings on the Lenz. It's been creaky for a week or so [note from the editor: sorry if you were passed on the trail and had to hear the jalopy going down the road], and I finally got tired of it. Good time for it, since it's gonna be rainy for the...

Things that make you frown :(

He's probably right. But you can always try a shoe horn (no, not the plastic slippy thing) first, if they're made of a stretchable material. Places that specialize in shoes tend to have them, as I imagine, would cobblers. Basically, it's a well-mounted piece of closed pipe, that lets you put...

Things that make you frown :(

Depends what hurts. I use insoles in my clipless shoes. Sometimes higher end shoes can be heat molded if it's a fit issue
