LECTURE: HISTORY OF THE STERLING MINES

In 1736, iron ore was discovered in the wilderness that is now Sterling Forest State Park. The ore found here was of high quality - in fact the quality was such that during the American Revolution, the Continental Army commissioned Noble, Townsend & Company’s Sterling Iron Works to manufacture the Great Chain that was placed across the Hudson River at West Point. Join Doc Bayne for a PowerPoint presentation on the fascinating history of the Sterling mines.
