ACCC Trail Meeting

Went to the "Eviromental" group meeting today at ACCC. I had a chance to speak about building a multipurose singletrack trail. I don't think I made a good impression...they added it to there ideas board...but have bigger fish to fry. Anyway...just wanted to say I gave it a try and who know..maybe it will work at a later date. Well see🙂

Did you hike the area yet? Is it swampy?

Frank,

I haven't done the ground work as of yet. I'd like to find someone to walk the area with me...I think/know two heads are better than one. Although from hunting the area from years ago...I know the land west of the school is mostly swamp or very very very low lying area. The south and east area are ALL upland with mostly open oak and scattered pine trees. I don't want to sound lazy..but I need someone to help me out. I'm in no shape to chew this all alone. Wish/hope someone local will come along help with this project. The ACCC group has to much on there plate at this time to dedicate time to the project. Understood....so I think someone from the MTBike community who has time would have more desire and ideas to make this a reality. I plan on attending the next meeting..I'll keep everyone posted🙂

I might be able to scope out the area with you sometime next month or in Dec. I'll be in touch.

Thanks Frank....Its appreciated...but I'm pretty sure I can find someone alot closer to participate. If I can't find someone..I'll let you know..thanks again🙂

Where are you thinking for a trail?

Hey WB...I've been trying to get something started at the Atlantic Cape Community College in Mays Landing, NJ. They have approx 700 undeveloped land....with an additonal couple thousand undeveloped aceres ajacend to it as well. I've walk a little bit of it and it could be an idea place for a multi-use trail. I've made some attemps to get the ball rolling but no much interest as of yet. I still need to walk the complete property and find local interest in getting it off the ground. I've spoken with the school about the project and they are interested...but getting the oks to build are still a long ways off. Anyway..If your interested in getting involved..shoot me a email and we can discuss it at length. Thanks for the interest🙂

This thread might be good to reference for what you are trying to do. And it's not far from the area you are looking to work on.

Hey thanks for the link...I'm familiar with Gerry and the Galloway tract he is trying to complete. He has his hands full over there...so I don't want to bother him with what I'm trying to start at ACCC. I was hoping to find someone at the school who would have interest..this might help to further the interest and get things started. I also don't like that Gerry is anti dirt bike. I whole heartedly agree that the trails should be designated for specific use. Dirt Bikes and Horses could use trails together because they both dig up the trails...although they would probably be at each others throats for the use intended..since horses spook easily and dirt bikers move much quicker than any horse especially on trails. Anyway...the intened use is good but the combination doesn't quite work its way out...so who know????? on the other hand...MTN. Bikers and Trail Runners seem to fit both for not hurting the tread (trail) and sharing the trail for the use. Just my opinion. Hey...I love dirt biking..and would have never gotten in MTN Biking if it was for riding a dirt bike when I was younger....with shared experance they go hand and hand..but with the damage a horse or dirt bike does to the tread/trail I think MTN Bikes trails should be seperated. I wish there was a way to make us all coexist on one tread/trail...but with the fagility of south jersey soil and how soft (basically beach sand) it becomes from hard use...its ashame,,but I never see this happening.

Watched a Egg Harbor Twp (EHT) counsel meeting....and got some great news. They purchased a 300 acre abandoned gravel pit off of Zion Rd. in EHT. I'm familiar with the pit since it is only 2 1/2 mile from my house. Its been abandoned for nearly 20 years now and has numerous trails and hills that have been revitalized by nature. The mayor ok'ed the 4 phases plan to get the place up to speed. I spoke to the second in command of the project(Dave Drueding) about mtbiking in the tract..he said it is one of the many activites that are allowed in the park. There are miles of trails already in existance in the park from dirt bike and four wheelers that have been using the tract for some time now. I plan on speading the next 6 months exploring the park/tract and hope to learn how to use a GPS to make what exists a planned loop around the pit. I then plan on submitting the trail to the mayor and counsel at a town meeting. This should firmly get a foot in the door for future MTN. Bike use in the park. ACCC is pretty much dead in the water for now...so I hope to make this thing a priority. I also hope J.O.R.B.A. will attend the counsel meeting once I get everthing up to speed 🙂

Is this the area off of Schoolhouse Rd that contains the EHT Arboretum? There was an article in the Press last week. Here is the link: http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/communities/eht/egg-harbor-township-about-to-transform-scullville-soil-mining-site/article_eb63603e-18b6-11e2-a1ac-001a4bcf887a.html?mode=story

Looks like a nice site.

dkocnj...thanks for the post 🙂 I rode the parcel/park/tract today and it was a alot of fun. First time on my mtbike in a while..so riding some place new is always exciting. The loop all the way around the site is approx 1.2 to 1.5 miles. At first look and ride this place feels alot like Allaire State Park. The right side of the park ( standing from Zion Rd) I explored some of the trails that branch out from the park..which is very nice singletrack. There are many trails that branch out...so I suppost in the future connecting them would be a priority and help give this ride more distance and better flow. On the back side of the park is the power line..not much you can add to this section..it is what it is. The left side of the park is where the arbortorium is..there is also nice singletrack there as well..but not very much of it 🙁 The other way to add distance to the ride would be actually riding in the belly of the park around the lake. Its all wide open..but would or could add distance.

With some imagination and planning I think you could make just about 5 miles of useable trail. The whole park is surrounded by houses so its difficult to expand the trail network. I plan on take a few more looks before making a concrete plan for action. Anyone who has a better idea(s)...I'd like to hear from you 🙂
