Essentially - yes - except there is no "sniping" with BaT auctions. If a bid comes in within the last few minutes, the countdown automatically resets to 3 mins to give other bidders time to respond.
That actually makes a whole lot of sense. I just remember doing that, wow so many years ago, on eBay and seeing it happen against items I put up for auction too.

I had a 92 5spd, not my first car but it was my first reliable car. Got it with ~136 on the clock and drove it until the head gasket went at 215. I don't think it ever gave me any other trouble aside from the AC blower motor dying in weather like this.
My friend had an auto 92 and a college GF had a 5-speed 92. I can tell you it was a FAR superior car than my 85 in every way.

You need a CC on file so they can take their vig, then you settle with the seller.
If the auction doesn't meet the reserve, they will still hook the high bidder up with the seller to negotiate.
They will sell anything you can convince them to list - but it is usually automotive.
Funny how noticeable those generational changes were back then. My car before the Accord was an 85 Camaro which was a tank by comparison. The Accord was tinny in every sense, from closing the doors to rolling down the road. The 2006 Camry that replaced it seemed so solid and virtually soundproof in comparison, which of course seems more ridiculous with every other newer car that I buy.
Cars seem to be going the other way these days. Both our new Mini and Land Cruiser need to have sound deadening done in order to sound anywhere near as solid as the cars they just replaced. Have a bunch of material sitting and waiting to be installed once the temps drop.
And yet the industry thought they were going to continue 2022 practices indefinitely in order to maximize their profits.

Wait... what? No MIINI (or Mini) was ever really intended to be "solid"...
I'm confused.... (having been involved with MINIs for about 23 years).
My 2006 MINI is a squeaky, rattling, noisy little car... although it feels like a vault compared to the '64 Mini it replaced.
Well. the Countryman isn't a real MINI anyway. Her's is a project way down the road. Too many hours of work needed for my LC to worry about the MINI. Also, hers has the Harmon Kardon system which makes all noises disappear.
The pair went for $4,700 😳😳😳

Well... all it takes is two folks with some means and desire... so not really surprising. That is the main benefit of listing something like this on BaT. On a regular cycling website I bet these would struggle to sell for $450. Personally, I wouldn't want them for free (assuming I had to keep them and not immediately flip them).

Oh wow... reminds me a little of my mother's car. She had a 1995 Legacy wagon. Had a lot more than 18K miles tho. She donated it to her church who gave it to someone in need. They sold it when they could afford something newer, but rumor is it's still puttering along. Replaced with a 2010 Volvo V50 and then in 2024 she went back to Subaru with a Forester.they should put this on BaT bet it sells for more than 13K:
