Canyon Spectral 5.0 or YT Jeffsey Comp?

Components look pretty comparable, similar price range and minor differences in geometry. Was wondering what the internet consensus is here and if there is something else I should consider for a "budget" trail bike.

Ibis ripmo af, certainly a bias opinion.
But I like mine. Depends where you like to ride. Definitely wouldn't recommend that if Allaire and Sixmile are your regulars but if your in the rocks and like to play enduro bro then you cant beat the price with what you get.

Does it have to be carbon or is aluminum ok? Budget friendly bikes that are good - check out Giant. I have been thoroughly enjoying my Trance X.
Even the less expensive Stances look great.
Plus, you'll have the ease of your bike shop to work through if you ever need warranty stuff done.

i have a 2018 (pre redesign) jeffsy and it's awesome. i'm sure the canyon is too, if components are comparable, i'd recommend going with whatever becomes available first. pretty sure the yt's are sold out, not sure about canyon

I have a hardtail for those, but I hate riding stuff like chimney rock because my god the rocks...

Check out Orbea Occam. Great value and you can select a bunch of upgrade options to build it out. Halters is a dealer, so when you pick out what you want, you can order direct from them and have an LBS to back you if you have any issues.

+1 on the Ripmo AF. You get a lot of bike for your money, and the way the bike rides is a couple of cuts above many of the others. And you can try before you buy, which is something you can’t do with the others, which is a big plus since bikes have gotten $$&.

Also fwiw, I was looking into the Canyon Spectral before I got my bike, because it did look cool. But, I kept reading about cracked bottom bracket shells and difficult customer service dealings. No thank you.

I owned a Canyon Lux. Decent pricepoint for what you get, but the bike was just decent, never really felt great on it. It was weirdly spec'ed (really narrow bars, grip shift). I didn't own it long enough to have to deal with their customer service, but if you do run into a warranty issue, you'll be the one taking all the pictures of the cracked frame, boxing it up, shipping it, and putting everything back together if they replace the frame. If you buy from a shop, that's all handled for you. In either case, you'll be bike-less for a few weeks to a few months while everything is sorted.

I have the same model year jeffsy and ultimately went with it over the Canyon based on looks. 😉

I had an '18 Jeffsy until I recently sold it and bought a brand new Izzo. So I guess I'm a bit of a YT fanboy. Honestly, the bikes are solid and well built. I had an issue with the rear shock on my Jeffsy and YT took care of it with no hassle. If I remember correctly they actually sent me a new rear shock with a return label for the defective one. I didn't even have any down time due to the issue. I understand the apprehension in dealing with issues when you go DTC but my experience has been good. I have heard that Canyon is not so great, though. Also, bike shops make money on repairs. Who cares if you get a little side eye?

Ultimately, I am capable of repairing almost anything that might happen to my bikes so I don't really have any issues. I don't think I'd recommend a DTC brand to someone without tools or mechanical aptitude, though.

how do you like the Izzo compared to the Jeffsy both ascending/descending?

Anyone hear much about the Jamis Portal? I heard that they are not sensitive to setup and ride pretty well without being "dialed in".
