Cars, it's electric! Do Do Do

On my drive to work I have to deal with the 80 east to 287 south merge...this is REALLY awful....would you just sit back and let the car figure out this merge?

Hate that merge. Used to live in Morristown and that was my commute home. Not so much the time sitting in traffic, but more the stress associated with the chaos of everyone trying to cut across from 202 onto 80 and from 80 to 287. This was almost 10 years ago now and there was construction as well to contend with (maybe still is).

@JerseyPete unfortunately I don't have a model 3 performance 🙁

@UtahJoe
$8k when we bought it (enhanced autopilot and FSD package). Cheapest as one point in 2019 was $5k for complete package when they tried to incentivize.
1/2 the choice to buy FSD from day 1 was to keep the value higher

the car can see that merge and will prep for it like 0.5mi before hand. Before the FSD update, the enhanced autopilot software was able to merge on the highways.

I use it daily to test what it can do well or not. It is AI and it's been getting better at all the roads I normally go on. This shit can even tell you are looking at your phone with the interior camera! It will make you disengage FSD to kill the warning before it officially count against you. IT can do many things well except for stop signs and yield signs. A little slow on getting back to moving after it looks for cars etc. It also doesn't see the speed bumps in my hood. It also doesn't pull in/out of driveways and parking lots yet. It's fun to me to use it and learn about it more. It sees kids at bus stops with backpacks on. It's better than the bad press you see and read about. There is definitely a driverless future coming and guarantee nothing else out is close to this.

Reminds me of watching these guys negotiate a pedestrian intersection at George Mason.

Hey EV peeps -

do you have the car drift forward when taking your foot off the brake?
Or do you need to hit the gas?

Have to play more with the Highlander Hybrid but it starts in EV mode and will take off in E mode with a gentle accelerator pedal use. Has enough torque to squeal the tires tho in sport mode!

My car will come to a complete stop without hitting the gas. Might be settings that change that.

Edit: I'd say I don't even use the brake pedal 95% of the time to stop. Just take my foot off the gas peddle and it comes to a stop pretty quickly.

I am pretty much settled on getting the lightning when you can buy it off the lot(not gonna preorder it) by then reliability should be better to gauge.

I love the idea of using it as a home generator, the thing has as much juice as 7 power walls and it's cheaper. You can put 3 car seats side by side in it and when one kid acts up you drop them in the fronk

The lighting looks pretty sweet but I think it's going to be a while before enough can find one on. A lot that's not 10 to 30k over msrp

Even with the car shortage there are dealers that aren't taking advantage and burning up their long term reputation on a one time sale. Everyone one and their mother places a refundable preorder I'm willing to bet a lot of these folks won't carry through as the price was like 100. If ford did what Tesla did and had 1k preorder I'd be more inclined to believe people are much more serious.
