Colonoscopy, how long after...

Results are in! I'mma mess. Not in too bad a way, but heading back in 3 years.
Couple things clipped out.

Got a leaky 'roid which has been causing a bunch of discomfort - keeping me off the bike.
he didn't fix it - which i'm kinda pissed at, cause that was the reason I went to see the dr in the first place.

what's for lunch?

oh, only lost 3lbs during the prep - so i'm not full of sh*t!

😀

Not too bad results if you have to go back in 3 years. Fast feedback too for anything they might have cut out. I think it took a few days for my results.

Mine wasn't so bad today.... I got a 7 year reprieve. Almost a perfect score 😂

The pills were easy to take.... Really outside of doing fasting during jorba fest where I was riding all day... Wasn't too bad..... If I wasn't groggy from the Propofol I probably could have wen riding today.

Guess next time I gotta ask for these pills. The stuff I had to drink was awful.

Had my initial Journey to the Center of My Butt experience today, so I’ll add to the thread.

Random takeaways:

-The “low residue” diet in the days leading up to the procedure was challenging for me. Eliminating whole grains, seeds, nuts, beans, raw greens from my plate meant cutting most of what I normally eat.

-I was prescribed Sutab, with otc Dulcolax as the “warmup”. No drama, no bloating, no issues. Would recommend.

-I ended up fasting exactly 24 hours; I was pleasantly surprised at how well I handled the lack of solid food. I used Gatorade and some lemon Jello to keep my blood sugar from going too low. I guess it worked.

-I’d done two rounds of Cologuard since turning 50, with negatives both times, but decided I was (probably over)due for an actual scope.

-Doc cleared me for 10 years, based on what he saw today.

Next up: Cataract surgery consultation. Congenital cataracts are finally becoming an issue, after 58 years.

Owning a body is interesting.

I've done my left eye a couple of years ago...they give you some goooood stuff for that one, I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed having a stranger poke into my eye with a scalpel while I was lying on a chair...

Owning a body is interesting.
Indeed!

Wow 10 years that’s great.

Jealous you also didn’t have to drink the horrible magic drink when I go back in 2.5 years I’ll be asking for the pills instead

my brief colonoscopy NIGHTMARE story….

so, a few months ago i rode a short bike race out in kansas where i abused my body for about 16 hours

after the ride i had some gastro distress that i figured was a result of the excessive sugar intake from that day

i wasn’t technically wrong…

i went to my primary doc who suggested i follow up with the Gastro doc…

i went to the GI doc who recommended a colonoscopy (my last one was 6 years ago). he was pretty convinced the distress i was having was a result of the grade 1 internal hemorrhoids he saw on prior scope. he thought they had likely gotten larger and irritated etc…so he would perform a very routine procedure to remove them - Rubber Band Ligation (RBL)

so, i do all the flushing out stuff as per usual, go in for the scope, and come out of the scope and I AM IN PAIN!!!

doc says that is typical for the RBL procedure since i now have a foreign body in there!!!

while he wasn’t wrong, what had happened was that the RBL caught a bit of the so-called dentate line…basically where your colon ends and the outside of you butt hole starts! my GI doc said this is the first time in 30 years this happened to one of his patients

this is not good…and caused a fissure which takes a long time to heal, and makes your day to day existence extremely uncomfortable

i followed up with a difference colorectal surgeon who prescribed a topical niphedipene ointment, multiple daily sitz baths, and just TIME to heal all wounds…she also mentioned that the RBL is something they usually do with the patient awake so they know if they “catch” a piece of that dentate line.

basically 7 weeks of recovery later, i ended up fine…though slightly traumatized!

but the interim period of pain and discomfort was an absolute nightmare. there were points where i went down the internet rabbit hole (don’t do this) and thought - i may never recover from this!

i’m so thankful to have that past me. some of the lessons coming out of that…EAT YOUR FIBER! reduce your sugar intake, drink lots of water!

I just had a visit with my guy about possible RBL.
Great. maybe the steroid cream will get it under control.

sheesh! i squirmed in my seat just reading this!

Influenced by this blog, I planned my colonoscopy a few months back for a very similar reason due to flare up back there after a bout with GI issues. And I can relate because I went down the internet hole (pun not intended) also because I was pretty sure I self diagnosed all the worst things I read about. The doc was less concerned and didnt see the need to do any follow up procedures on my H friend, and Luckily the OTC stuff helped to resolve it but it took at least 3+ weeks and I am also slightly PTSD about it.

Anyway - glad this is all "behind" you now (too soon?) 😛
