Cushcore... Does anyone run them?

Recently I dropped my tire pressure to 28 rear 21 front. I previously ran 35 rear 30 front. Now I'm a big guy... around 260 lbs. So my new pressure might be a little low. But I ride so much better with the lower tire pressure. Climbing and descending the added grip is amazing. I took 3 minutes off my best time on the Oreland westbound segment in wildcat. And that's riding all the rock features. When I was riding the higher pressure I was never able to clear those rock features. I guess I could have magically gotten some major skill upgrade overnight... but I think its related to the tire pressure. The only problem is that I feel some rim strikes on the bigger hits. As a rider developing skill in the tech department but also someone who is missing most of my self preservation instincts, I love to ride at the limit thru rock gardens at speed. I am leaning toward buying a set but would like some input if there is any on here. Has anyone used cushcore or a similar system?

A former mtbnj'er moved westward swears by them, says it is a total game changer if running lightweight sidewalls (i.e., not DH sidewalls). I am thinking about putting one on just the rear. Want to split a set?

I might go for that @stb222 . The front doesn't seem to be as much of an issue for me. The improved cornering might be helpful for the front. but I don't know how much better a minion can get in the front. Lets see if anyone has more opinions.

Just ride Minion DHF/DHR combo. You can run them at 15psi and they won't die.

Also, I'm selling a SantaCruz Chameleon XL with 27.5+ tires if you want extra contact patch.🙂

I am running 27.5x2.3 minion front and 27.5x2.4 Ardents in the rear. I have the stock giant xc1 rims so they are a bit narrow at 23 mm. But not really in the market for wider hoops.

when my ardent dies I was thinking about going to the aggressor.

They came out with an xc version that is a lil lighter and easier to mount. They are great I'm only 160 lbs but like the feel of them . I run same pressure 21f 25r on my 29er with 2.3 to 2.4 tires but ride on the aggressive side of things . Weight is not an issue for me I'd say the only down side is getting a flat trailside and trying to wrestle it out to put a tube in .

I pinched and killed a 2 month old DHR 2.8 at CR. Thinking about trying these, but as a recovering weight weenie it's rally tough to add 250g per wheel of rotating weight.

2.8 sounds like a + tire, which I'm assuming is a little thinner. The 3lb 29er ones are BEEFY.

What's a "cushcore"?

The DHR II that I just ditched begs to differ...

It's been said before about front suspension, full suspension, disc brakes, dropper posts.... every improvement seems to be more complicated, add weight and cost more. Keeps me in business.

Not to mention the $50 a wheel install. I love them. But would never ride them.
