Dropper Posts

I need one. What do you have, and why do like/not like it?

BTW I'm leaning towards the LEV based on online reviews because I don't know anyone who runs one. Actually I don't know anyone with a dropper post period because I usually ride alone, so I need some "real" reviews.

The crew up in Stowe swear by the Rock Shox Reverb. I take what they say about products for pretty much gospel knowing how hard and how much they ride.

Another interesting thing I heard Ron say to a guy that was just getting one was to resist the urge to pop it up. He said for the flats it gets you standing up and riding more aggressively.

I ride up there quite a bit, sometimes road, sometimes mtb. You must mean the guys at iRIDE? Last time I was at my LBS here I checked out a newer bike there that had a Reverb, and it moved side to side when I gave it a shake. Don't know if this is inherent to the Reverb or all droppers.

Yup - iRide - Ron and Paul are awesome. Have hit that shop up since when it was Hardy's and was Irie Cycles. That's where I demo'd the 650B Bronson. I love the trails up there but it's taken me like 15+ years to find all the goods.

Not sure on the side to side play if it's just for the Reverb or all of them.

Have you ever made your way down to Waterbury? The town loops are ok, but you have to know someone to show you all the locals only stuff. The need for a dropper really hit me last time I was up there riding down Sphincter with my seat in my neck. If you've ever ridden down that trail, you know that part I'm talking about.

If you road ride, try riding up through the Notch. Just make sure you've eaten your breakfast well in advance.

I did Waterbury with Paul, Ron and Dylan a few years back. Wicked fun time. I think I know what you are talking about with Sphincter, and yes seat at your neck, haha.

I don't know all the stuff but have done a few local knowledge rides. There are a couple of pieces right from our house that hardly see tires. The new zone at Adams Camp is great and links up with Trapps. Honestly Town Loops have been actually getting good even with all the traffic. They armor up the trails pretty well. I remember riding it when the back stuff was essentially rake and ride and Hardy, JD and those guys had a few north shore stunty lines. For most of the stuff in that area a Dropper post would make things really fun. If you know the trail - usually it's a double track climb for a while and then a good piece of some downhill/level singletrack.

Have always thought about threading the Notch but I never have enough time to ride all the dirt up there let alone road, lol.

I've used the LEV for a few months. Had a couple of initial problems that were my fault, but otherwise it's been great. If you do get one I'd advise installing the inline cable adjuster...I didn't on mine and I've had to adjust a few times to get enough cable tension to release the post.

Any play in the post? How does it hold up to a crash every now and then? I normally don't overthing equipment purchases too much, but these things are expensive for what they are.

Sounds like you know the dirt up there a little better than I do. I rember the stunts they had back there back in the day, some of them were pretty big. I remember one that looked like a good 15-20 foot drop to the transition. I heard they took that stuff down after someone f'd themselves up pretty good. I'm trying to make a trail from our house down to road behind the Gables Inn, however I have a 30ft. cliff to negotiate which is making things a little difficult. There is a trail-head off of that road that takes you to Sphincter and the town loops.

Tiny bit of play...I'd rather there wasn't any but I'm kind of fussy and it doesn't bother me. Haven't had a full on crash since I've been using it but I've bailed a couple of times with no damage done.
