Electric Bike Burnouts at Sixmile

Hey, forgot to mention.. unsure if this has been discussed before.
Some kids yelling and making a ruckus had some electric bikes with throttles up at six mile.
They were down in the Jacques Lane area but came all the way up to where Blue meets Red at the top.

They left a lot of burnout marks like this here and a little farther up (pic looks uphill towards east just coming off blue onto red)
On my way back I went in the Jacques Lane area and saw lots more burnouts and turnaround burnouts.

Only caught a through the trees glimpse without camera on. This was Sunday 11/16/25 around 12:40'ish

Throttle e-bikes and motorcycles are illegal in Six Mile.

Sounds great in theory, but I'm not sure how effective it might be... I cannot really think of anywhere a log could be placed where riding around it wouldn't be difficult... Looking a map, my WAG is the kids are entering the park from the houses off Van Cleef. It's been a few years since I've been on that part of Blackwoods Rd, but I don't recall any easy way to block access to the park along the entire length of the road.

so much stuff we ride started as old moto trails.

such a shame the legal environment will not allow this.

It's not just a problem at Six. I've run into them at Chimney and Stevens. The best approach is to document (photos and or video) let them kindly know they aren't allowed at the park. Send the edvidence to the Chapter Lead or Park Land Manager if you know who it is.

Park Police are definietly aware of the issue, so evidence will help them focus their efforts.

The only park where MTBers ride where throttle vehicles are legal (that I know of) is Brendan Byrne. I always route them there.

@Patrick is right, if they had a legal place closer to home, that would get them off our trails.

Probably right. It would also stop all of the legal e-bikers because they can’t get over logs either 😂

What would happen is someone would start stacking logs against it and make it a TTF or bushwack around it. There's no easy way to fence off parks and only allow some in.

One idea is we (MTBers) create a advocacy group and work with them to get areas where they are allowed.

For law abiding adults maybe. I can still remember being a kid. If I had one of these when I was 13 I wouldn't care what some old guy in the woods said/yelled at me.

I know I saw some signs... but they are small and easy to blow by. I feel like all the local parks could use bigger more in your face signs, as a starting point.

E-motos (and in some areas - "regular" motos) are a problem in a lot of parks. They are quite prevalent in Neshaminy - I would say I see or hear them half the times I ride there. That said, kids have been riding dirt bikes in those woods since before mtn bikes existed, so I'm not sure that will ever be stopped. They are an issue in Pennypack as well, although we have seen Philly Police patrols a few times. We've seen a guy on an e-moto a couple of times, but he was courteous.

The one thing I don't understand about electric dirt bikes but also dirt bikes and quads in general is why the state doesn't register them allowing them on the road, which would result in revenues for the state and accountability for their riders (or their parents) as they wouild have to be compliant to driving laws. And yes I couldn't give a f**k about them having to be registered because I'm never going to ride one and I plain hate them...with the number of them currently roaming the parks and the streets around the parks, if they run over a pedestrian what are the chances they will stop and provide the info about their non existent insurance policy?

I had one when I was 13-15, the only time I got yelled at was going past a restaurant "too loud" -
owner waved me down, started yelling, then just said to keep it down going past because people are relaxing.
being an idiot kit, I never thought of that.

we had train tracks, and two old quarries to ride (Parsippany and montville.)
they aren't there anymore - the cops would swing in to make sure nobody was drinking.

ah, the good old days.

well I did get it impounded when I was doing donuts in the street in the snow -
cop pulls up and says drive it to the station - it's going in for 30 days.
can't really run when they all know who you are....

Not really, I doubt a road bike has the same potential to do harm as a dirt bike or a quad...also, not many can outrun a police cruiser on a road bike while being chased.

You can definitely register them in NJ for use in some areas.

Yes - but unless the rules have changed, to ride a dirt bike in Brendan Bryne, it needs to be registered and tagged - basically a street legal enduro or adventure moto. IIRC, they are somewhat strict about the type of muffler too. Must be spark arresting, or something like that - for fairly obvious reasons...

My theory about motos in Bredan Byrne is riding there helps keep the fire cuts open. I'd like to try riding mtn bikes there again as I remember those fire cuts being like an endless pump track thanks to the moto whoops.
