Everyday diet...need some help.

Unless they're covered in butter, cheese or fattening dressing there's really no reason to worry about limiting green vegetables. Or are you measuring to ensure you're getting enough veggies?
I assume you are measuring to ensure you get enough, and not to limit it to 2 cups? I mean you should eat 5 cups of carrots if you feel so inclined.
No butter, cheese or fattening dressing. If in weight loss mode, 1 cup veg with 1 serving of fruit. In maintenance or race season training, full 2 cups and fruit. At this point after 2yrs of my fitness and nutrition journey, it's all done by eye and how full I feel.

Lucky for me, I'm not a big fan of carrots. But broccoli and cauliflower are enjoyed in volumes of more than 2 cups. Did I say how much I like eating cashews?

Why lucky? Carrots are not exciting. They serve a purpose and I eat them for obvious reasons. Like you, cashews and stuff like almonds or chocolate cheesecake are far more enjoyable. But you know...

Lucky in the fact that there's always a bag of baby carrots in the refrigerator, but I'll skip over them and my wife has them all to her self. However, when we take the effort to peel and cut them into strips the size of FF, spray with avocado oil, sprinkle with smoked paprika and bake them in the oven. All bets are off.

Fruit, grains and starch all brake down to glucose….. glucose forces your body to pump insulin. A bowl of sugar and a bowl of grapes are the same thing after you brake them down. If you are trying to loose weight don’t eat anything that could be fermented into alcohol. If something makes good alcohol that’s because it’s loaded with glucose ( sugar).

Where do you come up with this shit? Bowl of sugar and grapes are the same thing? Go read a biochemistry/physiology textbook, or take a class.

Keep it simple the less ingredients the better. Meal prep is a must for me

I dont meal prep but i pretty much eat the same stuff everyday and switch it up every couple of weeks or so. This makes grocery shopping quick and keeps decisions way down. It fits my life really well.

Variety and choices are overrated for me. Like you mentioned, keeping it simple works and is effective.

been enjoying having protein shakes for breakfast lately.....oatmeal, protein power, creatine, peanut butter powder, berries, unsweetened almond milk.

The only thing I really prep is always having some sort of cooked protein in the fridge mostly chicken. I work a weird schedule with lots of oncall shifts and I'm on the road all day. If I have protein cooked ahead of time I can easily throw something together and run out the door.

They are my go to. I use unsweetened AM as well. It adds a little viscosity because plain water just aint it.

Cool. What is your protein range nowadays. I average between 70-80% of bw (130-150g) and can easily ramp it up 1to1 at any point. I was struggling to keep it on the higher end because i was trying to squeeze into the same amount of meals. Added an extra feeding and fixed it quick… it was a real “duh” moment for me. 🤪

agreed....im probably in the minority on this...But I found that if I stack it with the oatmeal on the bottom....when im done mixing it will be thick enough to eat it with a spoon...Which I like better for whatever reason? Maybe my old fat person brain thinks im eating cake icing, or cake batter lol.

Fructose, glucose, sucrose are sugars. Eating sugars forces your body to dump insulin into the bloodstream because sugars are poisonous. The insulin does 2 major things, first it tells the cells of the body to absorb the sugars and use them for fuel, second it tells the bodies fat cells to store the sugars that the cells do not use. There is a condition where the body looses the ability to deal with sugars, it’s called diabetes and there are 2 types. Type one is where the pancreas beta cells stop producing insulin and the body has no way deal with the sugars and parts of the body start failing from sugar poisoning. The second type of diabetes is called type two, with this type the body’s cells become insulin resistant, that is when the body pumps insulin, the cells in the body absorb less and less sugar, the body’s only option it to produce more and more fat cells . This is why most “heavy” people show signs of insulin resistance. You ever wonder why people with diabetes start loosing fingers and toes? Simple, as the condition worsens, the body has no choice push the sugars to the extremities and the cells start to die. You ever wonder why it gets harder and harder to keep the weight off, it’s insulin resistance, as some people get older, the cells become more and more insulin resistant and the sugars are pumped into the fat cells.
If you are older and putting on weight, cut the carbs.

I don’t think anyone is arguing (most of) this, but usually the next argument is “a calorie is a calorie” blah blah blah.

How many grapes would a person need to eat to equate to eating one bowl of sugar?

sugars are poisonous

They are, in fact, not poisonous.

The brain needs glucose to survive. Don't listen to me, go with a Harvard professor. I know the lofty Internet PhD holds a lot of weight in the world. But really, it actually doesn't amount for much.

Eat a balanced diet and stay away from the Chicken Little stuff, and you'll be ok.

Unfortunately DT may not get a lot out of this thread at this point. But I guess this is the internet.

I mean have read and listened to Dr. Robert Lustig too, but even he disagrees with you.

This a crude and over simplified Google explanation of diabetes. Sugar isn't poison, although excess everything could be considered a "poison". You need glucose to be converted to ATP to provide energy for just about every metabolic process in your body. So no, not really a poison. And just because you get put on weight doesn't mean its because you're insulin resistant. That is a result of getting heavy, not the cause. Excess sugar is bad, but some is ok. You completely overlook the worst part of excess sugar, which is lipogenesis. Go Google that.

I don’t think anyone is arguing (most of) this, but usually the next argument is “a calorie is a calorie” blah blah blah.

How many grapes would a person need to eat to equate to eating one bowl of sugar?

That was the worlds dumbest analogy. Grapes contain the glucose and fructose, both monosaccharides, vs. a bowl of processed sucrose. The quantity of grapes you'd need to eat I think would have you shitting grapes for the next 2 days.

But then where would the entertainment value be? Seriously though, DT should speak to sports dietician, not nutritionist, but dietician. Diets are individualized.
