First time to race (Noob)

Hello. Happy New Year. I would like to know more about racing. My first time to race so I am looking at not so technical trails. Lewis Morris? I'm 46 and would love to experience a race. Any suggestions? I tried riding in Ringwood, it was fun but at the same time a bit daunting.

Lewis morris is a good beginner race

Cat 3 (beginner) race courses are sometimes (but not always) routed to be easier than the other Cats courses. For a beginner, Lewis Morris isn't technical but it is climby! There is also the SOS race at Stewart Airport that's beginner friendly (but not in NJ). Go have fun!

+1 Lewis Morris race.

The Mtbnj short track course is pretty manageable too- and everyone is super
encouraging! Every Sunday in march.

What type of bike do you have?

Where do you live, what trails are by you?
Short track in late February an March is a good introduction to racing. Not tech and not long plus entry fees are cheap. It's a weekly series, it's a great way to meet people and get into racing. We will be posting registration soon. Hope you can make it

MTBNJ Short Track! It's similar in format to cyclocross. Do as many laps in the 40 minutes or so that they give you. The laps are a little over a mile, so you can bail any time and have a short walk out if need be. Otherwise, the H2H series races have been fun for me as well. Jungle is technical, but short with not too many places to pass. Lewis is definitely a good option because it has many more wide sections and much less technical.

None of the H2H races are super technical. That being said, some of those races are tech (Jungle, Waway, Taconic 909- only -because-I-broke-my-thumb-last-year). Lewis Morris is a great place to get your feet wet in racing, nothing technical but fair amount of climbing. KVSP is my favorite, a bit tougher than LewMo but not daunting like some of the trails at Ringwood. Good to see new people out there interested in racing! I suck at it, but I donate my money and just have a blast riding, racing, meeting people.

You dont have to wait for Lewis Morris. Do March Mayhem

Easier than LM and still lots of fun. Not technical at all and you can build up for H2H races. It's not well known yet as it's only the second year, but you can ask anyone that was there last year. In terms of required technical skills it's definitely the easier race around.

I'm doing this on March. First race for me. Signed up for men's 40-49 Cat 3. Running my singlespeed but racing in the regular class

remember, don't expect or assume you're going to win your first race - doing so can ruin the experience of racing for you by placing disappointment on the day. For your first race go out with the intention of experiencing racing and having a good time, which it will be if you go in with the right mentality.

That's my plan
