Freehub compatibility question

My 2011 Trek Paragon has an FH-M525-SL rear hub. It's got a 10-speed cassette. I'm looking to replace the free-hub as opposed to the whole hub to avoid re-lacing wheel.

Strangely, when I look up that hub it only shows as 8/9-speed. I'm pretty sure I've replaced it before with this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shimano-Deo...419594?hash=item1c530c9c0a:g:KpwAAOSwrklVVf0W

Can anybody confirm if I can replace just the free-hub body with a higher grade? I.e. the freehub body only from a FH-M675 or FH-M756. Could I buy this hub (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shimano-Deo...050315?hash=item567855670b:g:UQwAAOSwLVZVqCcO) and just swap the freehub body onto the 525 hub?

Thanks in advance.

Dont listen to this noob but i thought i read/heard somewhere that the 8/9/10 were the same size.

Consider this as a bump. 🙂

I cannot speak for the compatibility of using a 675 or 756 freehub on a 525 shell. I would assume that Shimano designs them the same and there is a good chance for interchangeability. What is it that you trying improve? Material-wise I would think they are the same.

From an 8 / 9 / 10 speed cassette standpoint, they can be used on the same 8/9 speed Shimano freehub. In trying to figure out why a 10 speed cassette fit loose on an older Mavic hub some time ago, I ran across this great article explaining the differences:

Just look for a shim in case there is one on the freehub if you swap.

OP is dealing with a mountain bike rear hub. They are 7 (with spacer), 8, 9, 10, and Shimano mtn 11 compatible.

Thanks all. Based on this feedback, I guess the easiest is to just stick with the 525 compatible free-hub and upgrade when I am ready to relace the wheel altogether.
