Hunting in Sterling

Is hunting open in all areas of Sterling Forest? On Tuesday while pulling into Laurel Meadow, I noticed a hunter with a shotgun walking into the brush adjacent to the lot. He did see me pulling in. After I parked and got out with my dog, he let off 3 rounds super close to us with no clear line of sight of where we were standing. There were also several other cars with bike racks already parked. I decided to just go ride at Ringwood instead.

Just to be clear in state parks Hunting first bikes second or third or fourth. Hunters pay for the state acquire land and use these state parks for the purpose of hunting. Always have way before mountain biking was a thing. Most hunters are respectful and are aware that parks are multi use. During hunting season be aware of your surroundings and wear bright clothing.

It should be small game, pheasant, etc. at this time with guns. Deer and bear would be bowhunting right now. Either way there are people with guns in the woods at the same time as you. Be noticed.

When it gets to regular deer season (mid-Nov) I try to be more selective of where I ride to limit the risk of being shot and also to be respectful of hunters who may have been waiting hours for a deer and then we roll through scaring away any wildlife.

I might be in the minority, but I tend to want to make their lives miserable and ride more during that time. I also tend to bring a 450 with me instead of a pedal bike, but to each own.
