mid- fat wheelset/tire experiment

Today my new rims and hubs arrive. I'm building up a second set of wheels for my Farley Fat bike. I decided to see how a 27.5+ will work out and how close the diameter is to the standard 26x4. I'm using the WTB Scraper TCS rims and I'm gonna start with the VEE Rubber TRAX Fatty 3.25 tire(not many options yet, and the wtb tires coming don't seem wide enough for my application). This is more of a project for spring/summer, as I am looking to hit the ole race circuit again on the fat bike. I think this combo has the potential to take about another 2 lbs off my bike and make it feel a little more nimble in the trails. Don't get me wrong, its very capable as it is, but I can't leave things alone. Stay tuned for updates.

Wish you were building a 135mm 650b+ so I can swing by and try on my SS. Numbers say yes with slidders slammed back.

if you're really curious.... I'll let you know when tires come in and we can through a couple spokes in a hub and mount the tire to the rim to see if it clears your frame. Let me know, sooner than later, cuz I could just get antsy and start building em up. Tires are still a week out

Matty, you may be a better candidate for the wtb 2.8 tires, or even a 2.5 with wider rim, but we can always see what fits

Subscribed. Plan to do the same for my fatty when these (or ANY 27.5+) tires become available.

Yes yes I do want to see. Let me know when that tire arrives Pete...

Cool project[emoji106]

Guitar Ted has been looking at 27.5+ for a while now... See link to one of his posts below....

I really like the idea of it...

Please keep us in the loop.[emoji2]

Rocky Mountain has been playing with that on their Element 29er. You may be a better candidate for the wtb mid fat line of 2.8" tires.

Waiting to see if if catches on/becomes more available but yes I'd need to un-fat it a little. Bike SEEMS to have a fair amount of clearance. Fatbike traction with full squish speed sounds pretty fun!

Any word on tires Pete?

so... the rims and hubs are here, but tire eta got pushed back another week from the distributors.

as for the rims, claimed weight is inaccurate. The website claims 406 grams while several other sites claim 650 grams. Well, one weighed 640 and one weighed 650. I'm happy with that. Tubeless will be a breeze too.
Matty, I'll let you know when tires show up so we can see about clearance

The vee rubbers have been real good on my pug in 29+ mode. I would buy again. My only real complaint is that the sidewalls look worn. The threads show through after a while but no rips or anything so far.

Sweet went by your shop just yesterday and was wondering...

they came in! I already laced one up to a 135 qr rear hub. Matty come on in and see if it fits.

FYI, tires weigh 940grams
