MTBNJ Stout Tournament

I am going with the Sam Smith's. Both are excellent but the Oatmeal stout was more interesting.

Here I have to go with Rasputin.
Sam's is a fine beer, but side by side,
I just don't think it stacked up.
Rasputin just had more depth.

Brad, we'll leave the voting open til you can weigh in.
See if you can drag Shaggz away from his wine and join us.

I'm down with the Sam's!

Sam's Oatmeal and Celebrator I've been drinking off and on for the past 25 years and I never get tired of either.

Thanks, hopefully our schedules can align for Monday night.

Finished drinking beer tonight and Steve and I split. I voted for Rasputin and Steve went with the Sam.

I guess holding up for us was unnecessary. 😱

For sporting sake we also split a Celebrator :getsome:

Sam it am.

Celebrator for the win!

Glad you guys were able to agree on something.
It is a fine beer.
Brad if your 4 y/o loses that goat, I have a whole herd in the garage.

Back to the stouts-
Looks like we have our finalists-
Sam Smith Oatmeal vs Founders Breakfast Stout.
I liked the Sam but wouldn't guess it would be one of the last 2 standing. Huh.

And once again, I do have extra Founders if anyone needs any.

The goats are hanging as decoration in my kitchen right now. My son did not seem too interested. Maybe he would use them as target practice for his storm troopers.

My vote goes to Founders Breakfast Stout. I can't wait until next year when this is released again. I enjoyed it more than any other beer in this tournament by far. The Sam's Smith is an excellent beer as well. I just need to get out on the bike and burn some of these calories off.

Hey, I was talking to some guy at one of the many beer stores I have visited as part of this whole affair and I remember him saying that the Breakfast Stout may be available year-round now. I believe it was the guy at White Tail Deer Plaza in Sparta, but not too sure.

I have a bunch of Founders in my fridge still, but no Sam Smith. Steve, we will need one for tonight. Let's talk at some point, I will try to pick some up.

Great round, great tournament. I kicked myself for trying the founders before the sam, as I thought it would over power my sense of taste. But, surprisingly, the flavor components of the SS were more prominent after several back & forths. I liked the founder's, but the smoothness & flavor of the Sam Smith were more to my liking.

So, who is organizing the next round?

Wow!
This mighta been the closest match-up yet.

Both beers are excellent but in the end I'm going to go with the classic taste of Sam Smith's.

Thanks for organizing jmanic, and for hooking me up along with Brad and Shaggz, when the brews were hard to track down.

Two stouts enter, one stout leaves...

Well it's been fun.
Thanks to the faithful for playing along.

Final match up was close as everyone says and voting shows-
Two strong contenders, for me though, Ima go Founders.

The Sam was the better behaved of the two (that's the British for you),
and I like that I can find it without going to 6 different liquor stores,
but I did enjoy everything Founders has going on.
Sam is definitely drinkable, and if I'm having more than 1,
it'd be the one, but side-by-side, I liked the Founders.

So I'm organizing the next round.
Everyone up for a Malt Liquor shoot-out?

Awesome!

One stout to rule them all: Founders Breakfast Stout

Here were my Top 6:

1.) Southern Tier Mokah (what can I say?...I like 'em strong, dark & sweet)
2.) Samuel Smith's Oatmeal - an old fav
3.) Founder's Breakfast - a new 'classic'.
4.) Stoudt's Fat Dog - this one came outta nowhere to knock my socks off.
5.) Old Rasputin - goes down easy.
6.) Oskar Blues Ten Fidy - at the onset on the tourney, thought this one
would have ranked higher. Still a good showing.

Good Contest!!!
