New MTB'er in Mount Olive / Hackettstown

Hi,

I'm a new mountain biker and actually pretty new to any kind of exercise.

Two questions off the bat that come to mind (and thanks in advance for any thoughts)

1) Are mountain bikes allowed on any trails, or do they have to be designated biking trails only? For example, can I bike in Schooley's Mountain Park on the trails there?

2) I live on the SE side of Hackettstown, just into Morris county. I also have 2 young kids and a wife free time is at an extreme premium. Does anyone know of any "secret" small trails that I can quickly run out to for miild/medium off road biking? Even going across Hackettstown to Deer Park might be too quick for a short ride.

Thanks!

Eric

Welcome! There are a couple of people on the board who know the Stephens State Park area entering from behind Budd Lake. Deer Park is a great place. As for Schooly's the only place is the Columbia Trail(strait and flat).:hmmm:

What a terrific idea! Stephens State Park from behind Budd Lake, that should be perfect!! I'll start a seperate thread in North New Jersey trying to learn about the route!

There is a thread.
