New to Jersey - sort of

Hi Everyone,

I've been living in NJ for about a year now in Toms River. I'm not that new, but i was tied up the first year getting acclimated to the area with my wife and 2 year old, plus a job that requires 50% travel. Prior to this I was in the city of Chicago for 4-5 years and had zero opportunities to ride a mountain bike. Before that I was living in Connecticut for a couple years and did some riding a few days a week.

A month or so ago I dusted off my old Trek 4500 and headed up to Allaire. I had no idea what I was in for. I was lost for hours, but had a BLAST. I'm totally hooked again. After that I went and bought a new bike and have been getting to Allaire as much as I can. Mainly riding the orange, blue, and tiger woods trails. As i get to know the park I branch out more and more. Sometime this week I plan on get to a place called "jakes branch" that is right here in toms river i think. A guy at my LBS told me about it.

Anyways - I just wanted to say hello as I will be frequenting this forum now that I know about it. If anyone is in the toms river area and wants to head to north jersey to some of the more technical riding spots let me know and I'd be happy to car pool. Also, if anyone knows of any bike clubs in ocean county where guys hang out and work on their mountain bikes I'd be interested in connecting.

Welcome aboard!

Starting next week there's a beginners ride every Tuesday at Allaire (whether pending of course). Great way to learn the park and meet some mtb friends.

I'm a regular there and plan to start getting some after work rides going. Be happy to show you around.

Welcome! lots of good folks and knowledge can come from here.....

Good karma comes your way when supporting Second Life Bikes, not to mention you'll meet people who ride.
You'll also want to join JORBA - 'cause good cause. And you'll see @Frank at allaire, and he will be most happy.

There are a couple of nj mtb groups on meetup.com.

Enjoy!

Oh and like Iggy said below - picture of bike!

Welcome. What new bike did you get?
The Tuesday night ride at Allaire is a good way to meet folks and learn the park.

Lots of great info here on the different trail systems. Check out JORBA and have fun out there...
Oh, and pic of the new bike, or it didn't happen. 😉

What time does everyone meet? I don't have any night riding equipment yet. I will certainly try to attend - thanks for the invite.

2016 specialized fuse comp. I was sold on the 27.5+ trend even before I went into the store. So far so good, but now I'm wishing I would've spent the extra couple hundred $ and gotten the expert.

It's a 6PM start and the ride ends before dusk. Sorry for the misnomer, there is no riding after dark; its against the rules.

Sunday morning April 23rd, 8AM, we'll be meeting to do trail maintenance at the park. Its lead by JORBA, but you don't have to be a JORBA member to participate. Come on out, meet more peeps, learn about JORBA and what they do, and earn some cred. 😉

We finish around noon, eat bagels (unless the squirrel gets them first), then head into the trails for a nice ride to enjoy the work from the morning.
