Not New

The only thing is - don't bring up Apple products.

Thanks don. Just like to keep Apple fanboys in line to keep them grounded in reality with facts and history.

I've been using them since I was 5 years old (my first computer was an Apple IIc on xmas 1984) and I was tricked into buying a Apple Newton 120 by their BS hype. I current have a G4 Mini but my main box is a custom multiboot setup.

Its just another brand of tool. Snap-on, Craftsman, Husky, etc...they all get the job done.

Especially these days, Apple is one of many consumer/mainstream PC company only with slicker marketing. Its a nice integrated modern package but its almost never real innovation despite what their ads claim. There are pluses and minuses to all brands. A small minority worldwide uses them because the difference just isn't significant enough for most people to switch.

These days they are a consumer electronics company first and foremost. Their PC sales pale in comparison to their mp3/phone sales.

That's exactly why I use macs. They get the job done. I couldn't care less about brand awareness, brand loyalty, iPods, or anything else. I crank out work on my mac in a way I can't on a PC. It's a means to a end; it's just the best means I've encountered.

Its just another means to end. Any of them can get the job done. Its not unique, innovative, or special. People just don't like change so they stick with platforms. I use them all. There are more software and hardware developers on the PC. Apple switched to PC hardware and admitted they were full of sh*t about PPC superiority:rofl:

The biggest BS at Apple is Steve Jobs. What a jackass. BeOS was better than NeXT but not his baby.

You can get more custom and faster hardware on PCs at the same pricepoint so you can get more work done as long as you know what you are doing (though the price differential isn't as significant - they seriously need a midrange headless mac again BTW). There isn't a significant easy of use difference anymore today. Out of the box it is easier as far as you get better default hardware and software choices for the average end user.

Most cutting edge movie special effects are done on PCs w/linux and custom software (Matrix to name one). Red hat and other *nix distros get job done in the business world on back office/heavy computing tasks - not windows or mac.

Also the Mac vs. PC argument has gone on for a while, but they are toys for the professional world.

When I've worked for big companies like Lehman Brothers and Sony - they used real professional workstations and servers - Sun and a small amount of SGI. Lehman Brothers had about 3000 sun workstations and servers back when I was there in the late 90s - those things started at almost $10K for the cheapest sun workstation you could buy.
