Schwalbe's new radials

I run 26F and 28R as well. I am 190 all geared up.
This is about what I have been running (25/27), and at 25 pounds heavier. And that's about 4PSI more than what the Wolftooth pressure app recommends for radials. I've always felt that thing is wonky.

I'm gonna go up more, maybe 27/30

Funny because that’s what I was running for a while before settling on 26/28. The lower PSI’s are slightly more comfortable BUT I found the higher PSI’s more efficient. Without losing the magic of radials. It’s very counterintuitive in comparison to years of mountain bike tire knowledge..

Just tried the higher end psi for the DH casings Albert's F/R (29/31) at mountain creek. Roll speed increase was noticeable and impressive. I felt like I barely sacrificed any grip vs running 28/29. Felt so locked on the berms, but was able to play more with traction when I asked the bike for flicks, skids and even a baby shralp or two. Impressive results for creek. Happy I pumped up the jams.

I wanted to give my .02 cents for whatever it’s worth after riding the TC up front this morning at Sterling..

For reference I am 190 all geared up on a 140F/140R trail bike.

I most likely will mimic other members thoughts on these radial tires but I am by no means “discovering” these attributes. I am simply in agreement.

Magic Mary 2.5 Trail Ultrasoft - old SKU front only for 60 + miles

One word summation: BEASTLY

Personally I don’t not feel this is a trail tire. Nothing like the previous non radial 2.4 version. I liked that tire a lot because of its versatility (terrain and riding discipline wise). Ultimately it’s very slow and lethargic on a pedal bike especially in mellower sections. It is better suited for faster all out riding not slower technical riding. Frigin’ amazing though when the trail points down and gets technical!! Amazing corner grip in the loose and gnarly. Love this tire, unfortunately it’s not the woman I want to marry.

Albert 2.5 Trail Ultrasoft - old SKU
front only for 125 + miles

One word summation: CONFUSION

Never had as great as a rear tire as the Albert 2.5 trail soft. Love it as well. …the front was just too bipolar for me…. Incredible grip at any lean angle on rocks, roots, and hard pack. RIGHT UNTIL YOU HIT loose over hard cornering. All the grip disappears and the starts “pushing” badly. Also they get very vague and non confidence aspirating. I had some significant crash’s this season. Very disappointing because they really are a good tire. It doesn’t make sense how it goes from one extreme to the other in that one condition.

Tacky Chan 2.5 Trail Ultrasoft - new SKU
front only 9 miles

One word summation: PRECISE

Two things I noticed instantly. One, it corners like a scalpel. It didn’t require aggressive angles to unlock this precision either. Not a plower per se but extremely direct. However it handled plowing, aka dumb lines very good . Slightly less grippy than the MM but has more finesse. Two, it rolls noticeably faster than the MM and I would even say a little bit better the Albert. It felt very fast and I was quicker on today’s ride than last weeks (..did the same exact route). It’s precision in the slow and fast tech with the addition of less rolling resistance is the reason why I am keeping this on the front of my trail bike. The level down in grip from the MM isn’t enough to sway me back..

EDIT: I ran 25 TC/28 Albert, the new TC casing felt better with 25 than my normal 26. It did feel a little “stiffer” during installation.

Near identical opinions across the board. I’m also almost identical weight and sounds like rider type too, so makes sense. I’ll probably keep MM/TC as my combo on my Ripmo through park season for all the reasons you said, but if I had a mid-shorter travel trail bike, I’d be switching to TC/AL too.

My best friend has a Ripmo and that bike rips. Can definitely see the MM/TC as a great combo there especially for bike park use. I definitely fall behind him on the downs but I am in love with the CBF suspension, lol.

Originally reading through the thread I noticed that I felt the same way about the tires I used at the time. I couldn’t wait till you posted more!! I love needing out on component talk.. And in the case of radials, the impact it’s going to have on the sport will increase ten fold over the next 5 years will be incredible IMHO.

Thanks for the feedback! Pretty much across the board agree, CBF is amazing, Ripmo is a ton of fun, radials are one of the biggest advancements in a long time, and nerding out is life 😆

I’m actually not really a park rider. Killington last weekend was my first DH day ever, but I also have a triple play for Creek and live 20 min away. But I do ride all the rockiest, gnarliest stuff NNJ, NY, etc has to offer and I like to ride fast and aggressively, so while the MM/TC drags a bit on the climbs and flats, I think it’s worth the tradeoff for now.

I’m most excited to try the Specialized Butcher/Eliminator radial combo next, but I’ve got a bunch of tires to burn through first lol

Just switched over to the NEW magic marry's sorf(R) and Ultra soft (F) for a week of riding in VT and then a few day back in NJ.

I didn't think that these could possibly be better than the Shreddas were in wetter season, but they were incredible. Best tires I have run to date. Rode with my buddy the other night who is usually pretty close to me on the DH's. He was on Conti Krytotals and he said he could tell from a distance that I wasn't slipping out in the dry conditions in spots where he was.

I've had a few chances to swap bikes recently (that had Maxxis tires) and until Maxxis starts shipping their Radial version, I wouldn't even consider anything but Radials from Schwalbe.

MM front AND rear??? Must be like riding on rails!!!

I finally got to ride the MM (Ultra soft) front and Tacky Chan (Ultra soft) rear on the SJ Evo. Just did some local XC/Trail, but it was really better than expected. Really thought the Gravity casing and Ultrasoft compound would be draggy, but it wasn't terrible. Grip was insane. Next step is CR and Creek

Put a set of Alberts on my e-bike , I go about 200 geared up , running 30 rear , 28 front , soft / ultrasoft respectively . Great grip , roll a little slower , well worth any weight increase . really dumb down the trail chatter . They live up to the hype .
