So. . .bike lanes are woke

I was wondering why this was current news as he blew up bike infrastructure under one of the early rounds of executive orders and also it was one of his campaign talking points. However, I work in the engineering consulting industry so saw the changes in language on agreements with our state projects that are federally funded. It is silly because anything in the design or concept development pipeline has already seen money spent and now you will be paying consultants to re-design the road without bike lanes. If they are halting construction of active projects, it is even more silly as you would pay for re-design AND reconstruction.

Either way, perfect place to say they "saved" money when it is almost impossible to quantify.

Here is some stuff i saw in nashville this week. For new construction or a complete redesign, why wouldnt you include. Retrofitting stuff in our region is sometimes a hard sell because our right of way is so limited.

They just repaved a bunch of streets around my commute area and removed the bike lanes that were there. My street used to have a lane on each side and now one of the roads was converted to 2 lanes with no shoulder.
 
While I wish I could bike commute daily and that it was an universally available mean of transportation, I always considered bike lane just painted on the pavement without any type of protection a cheap, fake solution to a serious problem and if anything inspiring a false sense of safety in cyclist using them.

There are plenty of examples of either poorly designed bike lanes, ones that have hazards and don’t meet design guidelines and all sorts of other things we can complain about, but some indication that an area is designated for bikes is better than having nothing, they aren’t designed to give anybody a sense of security that you’re safe.

Where I'm from bike lanes are used as extra parking spots or even as a passing lane on the right, regardless what they're designed for, they give me no sense of safety at all. I doubt that NJ drivers are strictly compliant to a stripe painted on the pavement, if they're even aware of it being there.

What I meant with my previous post is that less jaded riders may think that being on their reserved lane keep them safe from being ran over by a driver in a rush, all the while drivers out there just consider that extra foot of tarmac as a bonus passing lane. I've been trained to always considering the worst case scenario when safety is involved, regardless the intended design. After all it looks like the consensus on this forum is to ignore a State law regarding e-bikes designed to save lives (only in the statements of those passing it), why would we expect drivers not to do the same? Not advocating or justifying any of this, just making a consideration based on my experience of human behavior.
