Army Corps to host two public info sessions on Rahway River Basin Flood Risk Mgt Feasibilit?y Study May 28th and 29th
The Army Corps of Engineers and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection have completed an economic analysis of 10 flood risk management alternatives for the Rahway River Basin, and will be sharing preliminary findings at two public information sessions May 28 and 29 in Cranford and Millburn, respectively, at 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
One of the options is an 810-foot long, 75-foot wide dam that will create an 80-acre detention basin stretching one mile from the top of Campbell's Pond to almost South Orange Avenue. This would destroy trails and vegetation at the heart of the Reservation and permanently block Brookside Avenue to any traffic.
There are more economically feasible alternatives available. Come and learn more. Show your support for these other options and discuss them with corps representatives.
If you are concerned about the dam as a misguided alternative, sign the petition at http://sornj.org (Save our Reservation) and learn more at that website and at http://somocon.org (South Mountain Conservancy).
The meeting details are:
CRANFORD: Wednesday, May 28, 2014, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Cranford Municipal Building- Council Chambers, 8 Springfield Avenue, Cranford, NJ
MILLBURN: Thursday, May 29, 2014, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Millburn Town Hall, 375 millburn ave, 2nd floor, millburn, nj
