such adventure, much blog, many words, wow.

its been like 2 months, but i finally put my road bike back together after repainting the frame.

i thought that white plastidip might be a good choice for paint....it was not. plastidip is soft and porous. this frame is going to get dirty as hell and not be easy to clean. oh well...its cheap anyways, at least i can get back into some road miles

so theres a new addition to the family...and one leaving...

we replaced my well loved ford ranger (216,000 miles over 2 engines) with a 2010 grand caravan SXT.

no. nobody is having any babies. but now we have ample sleeping room, fully contained inside the car, instead of having to get out and into the bed of the truck. with the stow and go seating, we can bring people when we want. i just need to get my racks setup and we are good to go!

when it came down to it. a minivan was never that high on my list of cars that i wanted to own...but i literally made a list of the features i wanted/needed in a car...and the minivan is what fit the bill, moreso than a pickup truck or SUV.

were taking our first road trip this evening up to Cohasset Massachusetts for the long weekend, and next weekend we will get a chance to see how well it sleeps.

haha, nice. Im thinking about removing the rear seat entirely. the well in the back is cavernous, and id like to use it for storage after i build the sleeping platform that i plan to eventually build

haha, i was thinking the opposite

i had a relaxing 3 days in Massachusetts with the fam. got some nice road riding in. only about 3 more weeks until untamed new england....i just saw that one of my teammates placed 3rd overall at a 50miler trail race.....i feel a bit ill prepared at that..oof

so i have 1 more week until i leave for untamed new england.

i got my hands on a packraft last week, and have used it twice since. it feels like im paddling an innertube...because i basically am. but i can really see the usefulness of having it as a mode of backcountry travel. its just not very light.

this week i have to taper, finalize my gear, and get 4 days worth of food organized. I am honestly most daunted with the food task...im probably the worst at eating during races.

now that the race is so close...its all getting very real and id be lying if i said i wasnt nervous about it. 4 days nonstop and 250 miles, with approximately 30,000 feet of elevation. this is going to be interesting.

so the overall course layout has been revealed as of last night. we still dont know exactly WHERE we will be racing...but we have an idea of the layout and distances of the legs. this is going to be a doozie.

That looks like the game plan for escaping communist russia. Jesus man.
Hey, don't eat the pancakes. No way could I packraft with pancakes in my gut. 🙂

The cartoonishly large green arrows make it seem so simple and easy. The might as well have used Comic Sans. I'm not sure I'd make it past Pancake Paradise.

I'm disappointed that 2 people have already gone with the pancake reference. I guess that's our collective way of making sense of that thing. Is the 70-80 miles of mountain biking on gravel roads? I can't imagine otherwise but people are crazy so...

well this looks fun, where is the hampton inn on the map? More specifically, where is the waffle maker at the hampton inn located?

Im waiting for my chance to be used for the mountain biking portion of one of these events, then jettisoned like the external tank on the space shuttle. You guys keep running/trekking....I drive back to the hotel and eat ice cream while watching the history channel.

im sure that there will be alot of gravel road/fire road type riding. maine is FULL of logging roads..so im betting we will see lots of that. Im sure that we will see singletrack too. and a buttload of elevation.
