i wouldn't necessarily call this a blog, but it is what it is: This Week In Base.

i'm not going to go into what i'm doing b/c it's pretty boring. norm really liked my 29 Days Later concept (so much so that he stole it) and after some discussion we decided to give it a go here.

what this will be is a weekly post of pictures that i take on my rides. it'll usually be five pictures, sometimes less. in all likelihood the only time i'll touch this in on Monday morning when i upload the new photos. maybe answer questions about the pictures, maybe not. this may only last a month, but it could last up until the SSaP. i'm not sure yet and it largely depends on how you all like it. all pics will be taken with an iPhone 4s.

so, without much fanfare, i give you the following:

edit: i have no idea how to put these IN the post so...there ya go.

photo one:
TWIB. definitely my favorite photo of the week
photo two:
the making of some sweet, cheap ass medals
photo three:
we have a lot going on here, not least of which is the story of my life: right turn arrow indicating one should go left at a stop sign with a dead end directly across the street. uh, what?
photo four:
i have no clue what kind of critter leaves tracks like this but stay away!

week 2

last week was a pretty solid week. this week...eh...maybe not so much. my house has been stricken with the stomach virus so it's only a matter of time before i'm doubled over. ahhh, life with children. they are EXCELLENT carriers and transmitters of illness. no matter how much they wash their hands or you purell them.

you getting all this jeremy and eric?

anyway, on with the show!

pic 1: random christmas tree on patriot's path. i don't even know how many times i've ridden past it without noticing it.
pic 2: how much is that WTF in the window? i don't know but i really like this bike i just have no clue what i would use it for. what i really wish is for the jersey devil to come with as ss/geared option. i just feel like that's a bike i should ride
pic 3: random castle
pic 4: this is a carry over from 29 days later. the Welsh Farms sign in long valley. my grandfather used to deliver milk for these guys. he had a sweet refrigerated truck and an ice locker at his house. if you lived in boonton/montville/boonton twp in the 70s he was likely your milkman.
pic 5: R&R? raking and relaxing. no ride yesterday since the flu, girl scout cookie sales and yard work collided in a perfect venn diagram of time suck

i'm gonna huck that castle.

i love love love the look of top tubes like that, but functionally i think it sucks. it takes away leg-throw-over clearance. awesome on a beach cruiser, not so much on bikes that go over dirt that you jump on and off of.

Ooooh! I have to add that Van Dessel to my list of potential commuter bikes for when I land in Oregon....

Frame/Fork/Hs for $699 seems like a pretty good deal, it looks cool, and it looks like it has bosses for fenders/racks....

Not so sure about the color, but I really like the look of the frame...and for that price, I could get it refinished ...maybe a nice matt-black powder coat...oooh.....

Didn't you just buy your commuter bike?

timmy, did you look at the trek/fisher sawyer?

not trying to sell you outta the VD which is wicked sweet but this is a complete option at a pretty decent price.

Nah, hadn't looked at that...does it have rack bosses (don't see any)? I'll check it out though I'm resistant to "big name" bikes...no reason...'just the way I am.

Tim, what about this frame?

for your commuter? by Twin Six, $499, steel goodness.

two week update

so i missed updating this last week for one key reason: my entire flock of children was sick and my riding was pretty lame. yeah, i got in four days but it was mostly quick stuff and i figured i'd just wait until there was a bit more content to deliver as opposed to just posting for the sake of posting. novel, i know. that said, two weeks worth of photos below:

photo 1: new cupcake place on Main Street in Chester. IIRC, they DO have cupcakes that feature bacon!
photo 2: a horse wonders what the strange thing in orange and blue is.
photo 3: cross street on "Robin's Ride" and possibly the best named streets around
photo 4: historic house in my crib
photo 5: "it's not every day you get to work on Hanna Montana's bike!"

two week update 2

photo 6: believe the hype. it's real.
photo 7: back road commerce.
photo 8: spring is springing.

i expected to be at 1/2 of my 2011 totals by this week but with my kids getting sick i'm about a week off. either way, i'm WAY ahead of where i was last year of any year prior.

gotta keep on keepin' on.

The hype just looks wrong on that steel. You should be ashamed of yourself.
