Tariffs...what to make of them.

Clearly sounds like you don't have much experience with communism, do you? By becoming more Westernized, you must mean allowing actual personal freedom and stopping state sponsored genocide?
Actual experience with communism? Exactly zero. But even to a casual observer, they're way more westernized than they were 20 years ago. More capitalist, more educated, more connected to the outside world, more freedoms. Is their government still doing incredibly awful things? Yes.

tRump just suggested Gaza residents find somewhere else to live. Find someone with money to build you a beautiful new place to live. Adding why would they want to go back to Gaza. It's nothing but rubble.....
I'm speechless.

Surprised he hasn't said that to the people of LA.

Oh the irony of him suggesting that "one of the countries over there" take in 2 million refugees all at once and build them a nice place to live.

To me the most surreal part.... he's going on this crazy long diatribe about how destroyed Gaza is and the buildings are falling down everything is Rubble unexploded Bombs all over the place.... why would you want to go back there when you're being blown up and shot
..

And it's like hey Mr president... You know the guy who completely carpet bombed and leveled the entire country is standing right next to you.

Bonus surrealism: we surely sold them more than a few of said bombs.

All those Muslims that voted republican because they were unhappy with the way the Biden administration was handling Israel just had their faces eaten by the leopard. There are 13 billionaires in the trump government, any one that thinks billionaires care about the country and the poor should plan on getting their faces eater as well.

Its all a deliberately engineered façade to make you question the validity, or look past, the horrible things that their government does. You can go ahead and admire them while they work on their aggressive nationalistic or regional expansion goals in the back ground. For example, you think the DeepSeek news last week wasn't deliberately engineered and timed? And that's nothing (they can keep that bullship up btw and present the buying opportunities.).

I'll retract the "adults in the room" comment. I don't want to come across as an admirer or apologist for China. My point was they're good at playing the the long game, but the reason they're good is because they're effectively a dictatorship and Xi can pretty much do what he wants without fear of losing his position. I'm not sure we can take the high moral ground on expansionism (Greenland, Panama and now Gaza?). They do lots of sabre rattling but haven't deployed their military to do much of anything (yet). Meanwhile we send our military all over the place for sometimes dubious reasons.

Somewhere in the Whitehouse:

“people are mad about the tariffs? How can I make people talk about something else?”

Classic trump redirect

It's a firehose.

There's legitimately far too many things to keep track of right now coming out of DC. This thread is pretty good proof of that. Good luck discussing any topic without the other 10 things going on creeping in.

Historically, China has had to reserve military deployments to efforts within their own country. With a population that big, and such a huge geographic area with lots of remote areas, civil wars are a kind of norm for them. I mean it's been what? 75 years since the last one? That government historically needs to figure out how to keep 800 million peasants in check. It's a tough job.

Ha! If they invade Taiwan, will that be considered a civil war?
