Tour of Utah Crash

1speed

Incredibly profound yet fantastically flawed
This is insane ...

And check out some of the comments ... I saw this one linked on Steve Tilford's site:

I hope the first guy wasn't too badly injured but this is satisfying to watch, fuck cyclists.

Wow ...

Damn that's tough to watch, hope the first dude is ok. I wonder what the speeds were coming into that switch?

You have to wonder if the outcome may have been any different with disc brakes. Tough crash. Hope the riders are ok..

I know this spot and it is steep as hell

Damn, you can tell how steep with the way those guys are over the back of their bikes. Tough to watch and even tougher to watch how poorly the first official on the scene handled it stopping in the middle of the road taking out two other riders. We will never know but that guy came into that corner waaaaay hot and disc brakes probably would not have stopped him from slamming into that car.

He had the stopping power, he was up on his front wheel, Just too hot for the turn.

Am I the only one wondering why support cars are making turns on a downhill like that in the midst of a bunch of cyclists? Shouldn't they let the cyclists all go thru first then follow, or at least find gaps where they aren't making turns simultaneously?

Wow that is scary

I once melted the brakes in my step moms astro van on this road and almost died, its pretty dam steep.

Better view...

The cars were in the gaps...nothing unusual about there. Guys go off the front and team cars chase because that's where the race is. Not sure how far back Brammeier was from the leaders at this point.

Probably just a momentary lapse in concentration...brake a nanosecond late on a tricky combo like this and you are in trouble. Looks like he was just carrying too much speed through the previous turn and the hard left surprised him. Better recon? Disc brakes wouldn't have done a thing to save him at that point but maybe they change the game for three or four other guys in the video who also overcooked that turn.

I rode Guardsman pass last year at glacial speeds compared to these guys and it is indeed steep as hell.
