That seems to be an apt description for most "down country" XC bikes. At least that is how I look at my Spot Ryve 115. It's also one of the reasons I run fairly light XC tires on the bike - they seem to keep me from pushing the bike too close to its limits. It can handle some really technical terrain, but I need to keep the speed under control as the intersection between the bike's limits and my own abilities don't always align - which has gotten me into trouble a few times. As expected it has aggressive geometry that going downhill it is great, until it isn't.
