Well, I only hate my current rack when I use it.... velocirax? One Up? What am I missing.

I have a saris super clamp 4 plugged into a yakima back swing, and that gives me the clearance to swing bikes away, but now that the family is on 29ers, and mid fat 27.5 with wide bars, loading the bikes is like a bad game of jenga. I am a little frustrated with the customer service too, and the bikes are on well but wiggle a bit. I have heard great things about the one up, and to get it set up it would be around 1499, I also am intrigued by the velocirax but not sure about the way bikes are hanging from it, and that would be around 1K, and I could carry even more than 4 bikes (I am a NICA coach now, and may be ferrying additional bikes) I have a full size tundra with a 600 lbs tongue weight and sumo springs to keep the back from drooping and it stiffens up the rear end a bit to reduce sway...

anyone with lots of miles on the 1up or the velocirax?

For security, I do not leave bikes on the rack for anything more than a drive through or ice cream, and will chain and cable the bikes, and also not be over 100 feet away because people suck.

Thanks

Jeff

Have both, 2 bike 1up and 4bike velocirax and no issue with either, they hold the bikes secure. Nice thing about velocirax is (assuming they still do this, have had mine for years) it comes with a wall mount for the garage so when not in use it’s bike storage, not taking up dead space.

I'm typically carrying 7+ bikes. My bike rack typically far exceeds the cost of the vehicle it's attached to..... Zero issues or concerns with this setup. When carrying XC bikes you'll have to turn the bars so the levers don't contact the top tubes of adjacent bikes, but that's a whole 15-20 seconds per bike. We now have two of these racks.

One of my teammates in DC has a velocirax and we've used it a few times.

He found by using a cut length of inner tube over the grip & lever to clamp the brake brakes on it seems to reduce the amount of wobble.

I've had my 1UP USA rack for about 15 years now and it is still holding up great. I have taken 2 bikes down to Florida, up to Canada, and over to Bentonville 3 times where one of them is an ebike on all 3 trips. This plus countless more local trips to places like Allegrippis Raystown in PA, Kingdom trails, Port Jervis, and to my local trails. I basically leave the rack on one of my vehicles all year long.

I have a Lolo rack. Holds 6 bikes, no bar twisting or anything. As a NICA coach, it gets used quite regularly, and often at full capacity. It's been money well-spent. This year I added their swinging adapter, and it is LEGIT. Expensive...but for how much I use it the convenience of the whole system has been worth it.
