What have you done to your bike today?

Lol...got the same exact bike in a trade with jklett, and did the same exact thing. Except it now went from SS to Microshift 1x9, and became a 27.5, 26" mullet ! Between the smaller rear wheel and the 120mm fork, its slacked out enough to make a pretty decent trail hardtail, for what is originally a pretty low end bike. View attachment 128637

The first thing I did was convert to 1x11 (hand-me-down SLX from my FS bike when I upgraded it to XTR). I also ditched the mechanical disks for some entry level hydros. That was easy enough. I put a dropper on despite the 27.2mm seatpost. The bike still sucked with the 80mm Suntour coil fork and stock wheels but it stayed that way for a year or so. Then I put a 100mm Rockshox Recon on it since that's about the best I could do with the straight steerer. It made it better but it still wasn't great with the stock wheels. The bike stayed that way for another year only seeing road duty when it was raining. I ditched the dropper at some point since it just added weight. I finally went off the deep end and bought some wheels, a new BB, and cranks for it. While I was at it I upgraded from 160mm rotors to 180s and put some 4 pot XT brakes on (again hand-me-downs from the trail bike when I went back to Guides). I ditched the gears and here we are. I think the bike weighs about half of what it did new.

It's definitely a lot of fun to ride SS. Since being reborn it's seen dirt a few times again on some hyper local trails I can ride to from my house. I'm actually looking forward to getting it to 6MR or even Allaire or Huber to see how well I can handle SS in real parks. Was it a waste of money? Absolutely! Am I glad I did it? Probably...lol.

Another round of Everesting Prep. Lighter rear wheel, cotton tires, single carbon cage. Sub 15 pounds with a 10-50 cassette and a 32t Boost XX1 Quarq.

Took my ride to a mechanic who shall remain nameless since I doubt he wants work on his days off like today. And swapped out those *wonderful 4 pot sram guide t brakes. For some 2 pot formula cura.
Some mighty fine levers I must say.

Then took shipment of these bike parts porn

Just under weight of an xx1 and cheaper then a xx0

Also recieved a floating 203mm disc because said 2 pot brakes requires a bigger rotor.

Built and installed a diy chainguide on my daughters bike. Its a makeshift 1x8 with a NW chainring up front but of course no clutch. As she has progressed to riding rougher trails she is getting the occasional Chain drop. Eventually I’ll upgrade one of my fleet and giver her a hand me down 1x10 setup but for now I decided to try the free route.

Gutted an old stx front derailleur for the clamp and used an extra mrp plastic guide piece with a screw from a go pro mount hacksawed to length and some random spacers. Seems like it will do the trick, at least until it takes a hard trail hit and explodes.

May swap the flouro green with the black one I have on my bike since it sticks out like a sore thumb on hers. Plan to trail test Once everything is dried out.

Next up, to teach her how to clean this thing!
