What have you done to your bike today?

Why are SRAM road brakes good when their mtn bike brake suck balls? At least that's how I feel about the Code brakes on the Heckler.
I have not had that same experienced with SRAM MTB brakes. I’ve switched between Shimano and SRAM and I can tell a difference in the feel, but the power is pretty close. I always use sintered pads and I’m ocd with bedding them in with the rotors.

My G2s are my biggest biking purchase disappointment. I'm constantly bitching about them but don't want to throw more money at swapping them out entirely. I've gone so far as to match the pads and rotors to my Shimano setup which has helped but still not enough.

They're fine until needing absolute power when going downhill at 20mph+. Mostly OK for XC. Now that I have them paired with a Rekon/Ground Control combination instead of Minion DHF/DHR they aren't much worse than the braking traction of the tires. I should have gotten Codes.

The G2 is a rebranded previous gen Guide. They are a recreational level brake on lower spec bikes or as a part of the spec most wouldn’t notice. They’re not horrible but yeah, Codes. Or any of the stealth brakes.
I fell for "4-Pistons" thinking they'd be good. I bought these before the current stuff out there, I'd be willing to give their newer stuff like the Motive a shot.

My Kenevo came with code “r”’s, I bought some code ultimate levers and changed the levers. I gave the code r levers to my buddy with a trek slash sporting guide brakes. He swapped the guide levers with the code r’s and said he felt the difference.

finally got some radials to try.....going to try them on my firebird first

Curious why you went with the Albert in Ultra Soft and the Mary in Soft. Mary is usually a front and Albert is usually a rear so typically the opposite compound choices.
Either way, this is my favorite tire combo I’ve ever used. I’m so bummed that the Albert is too tall and runs my V1 Ripmo AF linkage. Currently have a Tacky Chan Radial in the back and it’s very good, but the Albert was better for me.

You just made me paranoid and I just walked downstairs to let the air out of my shock on my Ripmo to see the clearance with the Albert Radial I have one ride with. It's the last gen Ripmo AF, clearance with the Albert 2.5 is fine.

I've only got one ride on it and my DHRII was destroyed so it's hard for me to make a comparison.

so TBH, I ordered them so long ago...maybe it was what i could get....but I also usually run the softest compounds with the most grip given the rocks we are typically on around here. That was probably what I was thinking at the time.

I’m sorry to say, it won’t work on the trail.

The clearance is fine on the stand, even with all the air out of the shock, but once you ride it and the tire deforms under load and shifts air volume around… no good.

For me it starts rubbing at ~60% into the travel. So it’s not constant, but anytime you take a mid-heavy compression. I tried running the shock firmer, the tires firmer and softer, swapped for a second Albert… all the same.

The only thing that may be different for you is that I was using the first gen Albert. I am also using Industry Nine Enduro S wheels with 30mm internal diameter. You may not have the issue with different wheels.

These pics are with the bike upside down so you can see where on the linkage it rubbed. Actually wore away a good portion of the aluminum.

Generally same. Lots of rocks. So many rocks. The ultra soft is very nice, I’m running it front and rear (Mary/Tacky) at the moment and it’s amazing, but I don’t think it’ll last very long. The soft is still pretty nice and grippy but a bit more durable.

They def dont last long...well unless you are @JimN and will ride they long after they become a carcass.....I also take my firebird to creek at least once a week...Creek is like sandpaper to all tires lol.

Tweaked my UDH ever so slightly last weekend on a stick of some sort (only 15 mins into my ride ☹️) and shifting went to crap so had to singlespeed it back to the car. Thought the derailleur was a goner too. But started by swapping out the UDH for a new one. Hadn’t had the need to do that before but it was a piece of cake. Derailleur was fine in the end. Amazing how a slight change in the UDH’s alignment makes a huge difference on a 12 speed drivetrain. Strangely, even though the replacement UDH is exactly the same as the OG, I had to mess with the B-tension screw a bit to get things just right.

Weird, I got no marks there yet and just checked again and seem to have clearance. I'll find out at Kitsuma this weekend. My rim is a 30.5ID Ringle.

And just checked the wife's Ripmo AF which has a Magic Mary in the back, non-radial. Doesn't seem to have issues.

Never had an issue with any other tire. All the other radials work fine. I’ve even run 2.6 Forekasters, Nobby Nic, Hans Dampf no issue.

I liked the Albert so much that I continued to ride it for another week even though it rubbed. Dumb, but it was so good.

I'm not opposed to taking a die grinder to the linkage for clearance...
I actually considered buying the Cascade link just to see if it has better clearance and/or to continue running the Albert until this link fails.

Bottom line, I just hope it’s not an issue for you. Maybe it’s a rim/tire combo that causes it so it won’t affect you. Keep me updated though, because if that is the case I’ll end up swapping wheels/tires with my other bike so I can keep riding the Albert lol
