Wheel Truing

Went ahead and got a truing stand as I had some spokes on two sets of wheels go slack. I figured I'd also take the time to ensure that the tension on all the spokes is evenly close. Does anyone know what the spoke tensions are supposed to be on the older Roval Control SL (1.6 straight pull) and the newer Controls (1.7 straight pull)?

I'm watching videos on how to do both, actually looking forward to learning how to do all this wheel stuff.

I have been trying to get this done on my wheels as well. What's a good video tutorial to follow? I DONT have a stand, so it will be done on the bike.

Problem is that most aluminum rims aren't dead straight (they're extruded/machined), so even tensions per side...doesn't mean a true wheel.

Replacing one or two broken spokes in an otherwise good wheel is pretty easy as long as you got the right length, but there's definitely some trial and error for retensioning a built wheel.

While we're discussing wheels. How do you remove spokes for a Mavic 819 rim? No holes on the inside.

Without knowing for sure I'd say the spokes come off the same way they all do. Loosen the nipple. Removing the nipple looks a bit more involved but a drill could certainly be helpful 🤣

Yeah, drillium possibility. It has a strange fitting between the rim and nipple. It must be removable to remove the nipple. No clue if it screws off or some other trick. Mavic stuff often makes me scratch my head...

Take apart wheels you don't need then rebuild them. Practice, practice, practice. I used to be terrible with truing and building wheels. Now it's a lot easier, but surely far from pro. Built 3 sets last week, while I'm doing rim and hub carousel projects. Velocity Dually 29 with Hopes. No truing stand or dishing tool, only a tension.gauge and spoke wrenches. I true the wheels on the bike they are going on.

They're retained by the nuts in the rim. You unscrew the nut with the proprietary tool (Park still sells "dog bone" versions of these that will work), remove the nipple, replace the nut, and connect the spoke.

They're a PITA to build. Marginally lower than a regular "no spoke hole" rim, but not by much. There are better options out there now--avoid like the plague unless you got them for free.

I'm planning to salvage the CK hub for another rim. Think I will just clip the spokes instead of buying a single use tool. Maybe consider it a drillium project in the distant future but more likely garbage.

And they're complete idiots that evolved into eating 1 specific food that has zero nutritional value while being the most abundant plant on earth.
I could use a Panda to eat the bamboo encroaching from my neighbor's yard
