When to clean the bike

i rinse my bike after every ride. get all the sand and dirt off and clean the drive train. once its dry I relube the chain so its ready to go next time. about once a month I lube the stanchions and the dropper.

I recently took a queue from a car detailing friend and bought a few things to make bike cleaning super fast and easy. A portable "sno-foam" sprayer and a simple brush is enough for the occasional cleaning. Its fast and easy to grab the sprayer--no bucket needed and its always ready to go as it holds plenty of soap solution for many washes. A few pumps on the handle and you can blast the soapy foam on the bike to gently clean away the muck without harsh cleaners or pressure washers.

does simple green make a product where the first instruction is something other than a dilution chart? AFAF

@JonF the Meguiars car wash and wax products are very good.

I have been curious about getting a sprayer for the cold weather months as it is a pain to use the outdoor hose. I have a short section of hose I use now that I take off and drain after use, maybe I will just get a longer one and attached it to the slop sink so I dont have to use the outdoor faucet

In the winter I let the mud dry, then knock it off, then clean. I dont like the bike sitting like that but im not dealing with water in the cold. Ive connected a hose to my slop sink and ran warm water before, still..... not dealing with it.

Bought one of these last winter once I had the gravel bike which needs cleaning more regular.

I fill it with hot water from the tub and spray the bike down when it’s bad. I didn’t think the nozzle and the pressure would
Be enough but it gets nearly all the dirt and muck off pretty well

Then I use some budget baby wipes and dry with a clean chamois. Then clean and lube chain. It’s not perfect but it’s a good winter wash. Just did this Sunday.

I've seen and been intrigued by a number of bucket based pressure washers over the years. Dewalt, greenworks and other legit tool brands have them, some with the pump integrated into the bucket and some with it in the gun (and u use whatever bucket, pond, puddle ,etc) water source. If i could find another legit use for one beyond the bike, i might justify it.

A thorough cleaning (outdoor, for me anyway) definitely gets more difficult as the temps approach single digits. At least there is less mud. I wonder how long until tomorrow's rain-soaked ground is frozen?
