Boy I’m good at refilling my tire with tubeless filler, but I’m among some elite mechanics.

I paid a lot (for me) for my pivot. While I’m wicked smart with software and coding when it comes to the bike I always feel I’ll make it worse if I try to do more… thus I trust the shop with more experience/time.

I’m not a fan of the over sell some shops will “recommend” as it feels too Midas (hey you’re brakes are at 40% used, you should replace them).

I do 99% of the work myself. The only thing I can't do is wheel building. Haven't had any electronics issues with my ebike yet so didn't have to bring it is but if/when I do then my percentage will definitely go down unless it's a software update I can do from the app which I've done several times now.

I watch some YouTube videos where necessary, then do it myself. But I'm refinishing the basement this week and losing my dedicated work space so that may change. Will probably send suspension out for proper service when the time comes for anything more than fork lowers.

I do everything except wheel truing. Between the stand, tensiometer and skill, it’s not worth it for how infrequently I need it done. Kind of like cars, I do everything except mount and balance tires.

Although I should probably have a shop do my bar tape, I’m pretty bad at it.

I've built a number of wheels and before I moved I sold my wheel stand but kept the tensiometer and other tools..

I was in a used bike shop yesterday where we have credit and saw two stands for sale and then realized I'd 100% much rather just drop a wheel off and pay the minimal cost for them to replace a spoke. Granted I'd also drop the wheel off with no tires and cleaned of sealant. Broken spokes for me are now so infrequent.

I do most everything but I stay from wheel building. I'll replace the bearings and maintain them but I leave the building and truing to my local shop. And, it's nice to have warranties when shit happens.

No suspension work but everything else. If it something I don’t know a good you tube video helps. If I don’t have the tool I buy it or borrow one from my friends bike shop. I help him from time to time. Last thing I did was install his bike lifts bc I have the hammer drill and other tools.

Can any local shops provide damper service in-house?

The only task I do not undertake personally is dismantling my suspension. However, I have assembled the majority of my bicycles, and they are surprisingly robust.

Edit - Siri rewrote that in a professional manner.
Yup, even simpler with axs. Switch all grease to waterproof grease, use chain wax and bike is almost maintenance free besides brake pads

2nd time going to a bike shop in my life for service. 1st time was on vacation 6 years ago and needed my chain shortened and didn't have the tools.

Turns out I bent my wheel in February 2020, the world shut down, didn't touch the bike much since and forgot about it until last night when I realized I needed a gravel bike for this weekend. Ran to a bike shop today, they trued the wheel while I was there, didn't charge me.
