Yosemite - Half Dome Backpacking Trip

I'm thinking about a 7 day backpacking trip through Yosemite. Has anyone climbed Half Dome (via the cables) and/or backpacked here? I'm wondering how difficult it is. I'm trying to figure out if it would be too much for my wife. We did Grand Canyon last year with no problem.

Anyone interesting in joining us toward the end of August?

Did this climb in 94. It is intimidating, your walking up steps and quite exposed by the time you get to the base. Then if there are lots of people, you have to pass them as they go down. I waited for a gap, and then started up. Not sure what the steepest pitch is, maybe 60-65 degrees. I suggest you pace yourself on the climb, your at something like 7000', I raced up too quickly and started to hyperventilate, two guys ahead of me looked back, there I am, "ok gasp ok gasp I'll be gasp ok". Then once you get to the top, there is the fierce marmot of half dome to fend off while you eat. As for who should attempt, this is something that should be assessed at the time, based on the weather, time, and how they feel. It does provide a great sense of accomplishment.

I wanted to do the half dome trek, it seems that it is always closed when I go 2 yosemite. I have only hiked from glacier pt to the valley, and 2 inspiration point

I tried to do it in flip-flops a number of years ago and had to bail on the summit. My advice would be to wear something a little more substantial then that.
